The Diary Game || SACRIFICING MY LECTURES TO TEACH PUPILS AT SCHOOL || 3/2|2026

I had lectures and children to teach at the same time. It was a difficult decision but for passion's sake, I was able to see through the possibilities in probabilities for which I should go for one and sacrifice for the other. There are days like this in our lives, leaving you with choices and I am glad I experienced it for others not for myself.

I woke up in the morning alongside a big decision having seeing the lecture notification on the postgraduate WhatsApp platform at night. It was so difficult for me so after family morning devotion, I told my wife how it is and she told me to go and teach the children first, and see how I can get to school for my lectures. That was the best advice to settle the contention of the decision in my heart.

I happily prepared my son and myself to be ready for school and by 7:15 am, we had left the house, i saw him through the school bus with the driver and I went the opposite direction to Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo where the Presbyterian International Nursery and Primary School where I am a chaplain/teacher is located.

Remembering my wife's suggestion, means that every single second is a valuable asset for me. It was painful to get to Water Fountain area, leading to the school and I was delayed for over 10 minutes due to keke plying that direction were already loaded, some passengers sat in both sides of the keke rider, that is against the road safety rule anyways, but everyone hurrying to go to work or to beat time like me may tend to break the rules.

At the cause of waiting, I noticed the area apart from the site attraction of the walkover bridge, water fountain with colourful lighting (especially in the night), people were on the green field for exercise, almost 8 am, there were still taking it serious, I was a bit distracted with sizes that needed to be reduced or many calories to be burned down. With the body sizes I saw there, the exercises were not for body fitness but for dealing with fat and weight loss.

Because of analyzing the time they spent there not going to work every day, I missed about two keke that would've carried me, that was when I realized the importance of minding my own business. I completely removed my eyes from them, boom! Keke throttled toward my direction, that's how I found myself at school, missing the morning assembly.

At 8:11am I was in school and straight to available class to commence my lessons. I taught Primary 3, 2, 6 left with the Transition class, Primary 1, 2, and 4. After the first three classes, it was already 12:40 pm and I returned to my office for some rest. Calls then came from the colleagues in the University of Uyo for my lectures, I told them, “I can't see myself leaving the children for today, I will read up, please take permission for me”

Why I sacrifice my lectures for the children?

1. This is their test for 1 week.
2. If I can't cover their syllabus for the term before the examination, my conscience will not allow me to have peace.
3. I can read up but I cannot squeeze 3 days of lessons into one day for children.

Putting all of the above in my perspective, I decided to stay and finish all six (6) classes before school dismissed at 2:30 pm.

Coming back from school means that I have a long day already, therefore I had my lunch and rested until evening when I woke up and read my lecture notes, researching on a few topics we were given for the next meeting in class.

I was enjoying the reading until my boy woke up also and met me outside, which I was avoiding him. He told me he wanted to eat business, drink water all at the same time. 😄 I was forced to provide so that I can continue.
