Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week127: Daring to be different
Hello dear friends, how are you all? I hope you all might be doing great. I was just checking for some contests on this platform and found this one. I felt it would be quite nice to share my experiences with you all. I hope I will be able to express myself clearly and convey what I really want to say.
What does it mean to "Dare To Be Different"
To dare to be different means following what I personally believe in. It can be any idea or principle that I truly value. For me, it does not matter whether my beliefs align with the values and principles of other people or not. Being different means making choices without simply copying others and having faith in what I believe is right, even if others may not see it the same way.
To be different also means standing out in a crowd. Sometimes this may make a person appear like a black sheep, but that difference can actually help someone develop a strong sense of identity and self-confidence. It requires the courage to support oneself and remain firm despite criticism coming from different directions.
For me, daring to be different also means accepting that it is impossible to make everyone happy. When someone tries to please everyone, they often end up compromising their own principles. In reality, not everyone will accept who you truly are, and there will always be people who disagree with you on certain matters. Therefore, daring to be different is about staying true to your beliefs while respectfully accepting that differences of opinion will always exist.
Have you ever dared to be different? If yes, share with us your experience?
I have tried to be different on many occasions. Although I may not have succeeded every time, there have been several instances where being different brought positive results. One such experience comes to my mind when I was associated with work in the rural development department.
There is a place called Nilnag, located in the middle of a forest area surrounded by beautiful pine trees and a serene lake nearby. Unfortunately, over time the place had been turned into a garbage dumping site by local people as well as visitors who ignored the natural beauty of the area. Seeing such a beautiful place being neglected deeply concerned me.
I decided to take a different step. I tried to involve people from the local community and organized a cleanliness drive to restore the beauty of the place. Initially, many people were hesitant to join. Some believed that such an effort would not make much difference, and a few even discouraged the idea. Despite that, I remained determined and continued to seek support from those who were willing to help.
Eventually, a small group joined the effort, and we began collecting garbage from around the lake and the nearby school. After gathering the waste, I requested my department to send garbage-carrying vehicles that usually operate in the lower areas of our jurisdiction. With their help, the collected waste was removed from the site.
The effort was deeply satisfying for me. It helped revive the beauty of the place and also created a sense of responsibility among local residents and visitors who come there to enjoy nature. That experience strengthened my belief that sometimes daring to be different can inspire positive change in the community.
Did you maintain your stand to the end by being different or you joined others eventually?
As I mentioned earlier, I did not compromise but stood firm with my commitment. I felt that the place was not healthy for the people or for the environment, and this strengthened my resolve to take action. I remained determined and did not step back from my decision.
Through my consistent efforts, a few people eventually joined me, and their support proved to be very helpful. Although some individuals tried to discourage me at that time, I stayed focused on my goal. I had a strong determination to make that place clean and beautiful once again, and because of that, I continued my efforts without giving up.
Do you think daring to be different is always worth it?
Daring to be different may sometimes prove to be wrong while we stick firmly to our own principles, but in my experience it has worked most of the time. Daring to be different is not always easy, yet it can often bring positive changes. It can also inspire other people to think in new ways, which ultimately helps society in one way or another.
Daring to be different requires the courage to think differently, but it should always be guided by a positive attitude and a genuine intention to create a positive impact. For me, daring to be different is closely connected with positivity and the desire to bring meaningful change.
At times, daring to be different can even become revolutionary. Throughout the course of history, many revolutions and major transformations have occurred because people had the courage to challenge the existing ways and think differently. In the future as well, daring to be different will continue to bring new ideas and changes that can shape society for the better.
I hope my invited friends like @roohiasif99 @leonciocast and @ulfatulrahmah would take part in this contest.
