SLC-S29/W1-“Thinking and Ideas!| If You Were in Charge!”
If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address?
If I were given full authority for one year in my community or country, the first issue I would address is ensuring universal access to quality education.
In most places in my country, especially in my community, there's no access to quality education, and education is a vital tool for development in any country. The foundation for individual empowerment, economic development, and social cohesion is education, which I would first treat the issue of education before any other issue.
Why did you choose this issue over others?
I chose this issue over others because education has a ripple effect: it promotes equality, helps reduce poverty, and fosters informed citizens who can contribute positively to society. By addressing education first, we can create a more equitable and prosperous future for everyone.
What is that one difficult decision you would have to make?
Allocating significant resources to overhaul and expand educational infrastructure and programs, which might require redirecting funds from other sectors like infrastructure or defense, would have been a difficult decision. Stakeholders who prioritise those aforementioned areas would want to go into a fight with me.
How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you?
To explain this decision to people who disagree, I would emphasize that investing in education yields long-term benefits that outweigh short-term sacrifices.
Also, I would highlight success stories and data showing how improved education systems lead to economic growth in other countries, how they reduce inequality, and bring about a stronger, more cohesive society. I would also give a listening ear to their concern and seek common ground to ensure the transition is as inclusive and fair as possible.

You explained your ideas in a simple and realistic way, and your choice of education as a top priority truly makes sense. Education is the foundation of personal growth and national development, and you highlighted this point very well. I like how you explained the ripple effect of education—how it can reduce poverty, promote equality, and create responsible citizens. Your explanation of the difficult decision and how you would communicate it to others shows maturity and good leadership thinking.
