SLC-S29/W3-“Thinking and Ideas!| Seeing Problems Differently!”

Everyday problem arose in our community and country number of which I saw while growing up seeing how people are struggling to get water I thought is a problem, but now I no longer see it as a problem like the way I see how public property is being destroyed.
Identify one everyday problem in your community or country and explain some steps in solving it.
Everyday Problem: Poor Attitude Toward Public Property**
Steps in solving the problem:
In solving this problem I have mapped out four steps that would be able to solve this problem better if they are applied correctly.
Community orientation and education: People need to be reminded always that public property belongs to everyone, not the government alone. Community meetings, local leaders, schools, and religious centres are the means through which this can be done.
Ownership and clear responsibility: I will assign market unions, youth associations, or community groups to take responsibility for maintaining public property like public toilets, water points, and roadsides.
Consistent enforcement of rules: There will be a penalty for misuse or vandalism to discourage people from careless behavior towards public property.
Lead by example leadership: as a leader in will respect and maintain public facilities, to encourage people to follow suit.
Why do you think this problem still exists despite many people
Noticing it?
I think the problem still exists because many believe that anything owned by the government belongs to nobody. Poor leadership examples, weak enforcement of rules, and a lack of civic education in schools have made neglect of public property a normal habit.
Over time, people stop feeling responsible for public property because they believe it's not their personal property which is not a good behavior.
In your opinion, what is the most misunderstood part of this problem?
In my opinion, the most misunderstood part of this problem is the belief that damaging public property does not affect individuals directly.
This is the reason why people take advantage of crises, to damage public property, forgetting that repairing damaged public properties costs public money, reduces service quality, and increases hardship for everyone. At the end of the day, everyone would suffer for the damage that we should avoid and stop anyone who tries to damage public property.
If you could change one mindset related to this issue, what would it be?
If I could change one mindset related to this issue, it would be to change the mindset that says, **"It is not my responsibility." **** I would replace the mindset with "This belongs to all of us" to encourage care, pride in shared spaces, and accountability of public property.

Your post really brings attention to a very important issue. You have described people's attitude towards public property and its impact very clearly and concisely. I also believe that the biggest misconception is that people think "it's not my responsibility" when in fact it's everyone's responsibility. Your solutions, such as community awareness, delegation of responsibility, enforcement of laws and setting an example through leadership, are very effective and practical. If the society understands that every public property belongs to everyone and everyone should take care of it, not only will the resources be preserved but also the quality of life for everyone will be improved.

Public property need to be maintained by members of the public so that it can last for a long time. This problem you highlights is one of the real challenge we face in Nigeria even if some people see government property been damage in their own eyes, they will not attend to it and they will say is not concerned them untill the property will destroy totally.
Public property must be maintain by masses so that government can spend the fund to another infrastructure where it will contribute to society development and people would also have good place to live. I wish you success
