The History Scam
We may not all agree that fast guy no be tif.
Some smart guys are mostly scammers, fraudsters often ready to dupe you.
This scam is beautifully crafted around the POS history and a simple mind conditioning trick that yields results in most cases if you do not have prior knowledge.
Target:
The target is the unsuspecting POS operator.
Mode Operandi:
The scammer goes to a POS service operator, starts with a request to check his balance.
Then he demands a withdrawal of a specific amount, you prep the transaction as usual by entering the required amount, then hand over the machine to the customer to authenticate with his PIN.
He entered the PIN and ...
You confirm the transaction, pay the amount, and off he goes. You have been scammed.
How did it happen
When the scammer first asks for a balance check, the POS operator will go to balance and demand that the customer enter their PIN by handing over the device to the customer.

At this point, the scammer travels quickly to history and takes note of the last transaction. Let's say he sees ₦10,000 as the last transaction.

He now gets out of the history and behaves as if he has confirmed his balance.
He now demands for ₦10,000 and say don't include the charge, I will pay the charge in cash. [ This is where the mind conditioning takes place, the amount to be withdrawn is ₦10,000 ]
Now the operator preps the transaction by typing in the said amount [₦10,000]. And hands it over to him for authentication. He enters the PIN and gets an invalid response. Which the operator will definitely not see.
It is at this point that a mistake happens, either the machine almost falls down, and he rescued it, or whatever theatrics take place, but it resulted in the error message being cleaned out.
Now the operator has to depend on history to confirm the transaction.
And on getting to history, once the operator sees the ₦10,000, he is likely to count the amount, confirm and pay.
Few will ever remember to look at the time of the transaction, or remember that the last transaction was also a ₦10,000. Without looking carefully, the operator will likely be scammed into thinking that the ₦10,000 transaction was successful.
Conclusion
Whenever a transaction starts with a balance check and the machine was mistakenly cancelled so you can only depend on history to authenticate the transaction. You may be about to get scammed.
Note that once you set the machine for a password check, the costomer should only press 5 buttons
Taking too long and fiddling around is suspicious
Most importantly. Go to access control and password access to history.
