SLC-S28/W4-“Local Taste, Global Twist| Global Dessert!
Hello everyone!
Today I am here to participate in the challenge of global desserts organized by @ninapenda. If you also want to participate in this challenge then:

What dessert did you choose or create? Why did you choose it?
For this week's global dessert challenge I have decided to create a Mixed Fruit Jelly. This is a colourful jelly dessert with the layers of fresh fruits. It is very simple yet meets local and global taste with colourful mixture of fruits and jelly.
I chose this dessert because:
- It is very cheap. It uses ingredients easily available in Pakistani homes.
- It requires almost no cooking. It only requires mixing and setting it in jars or glasses.
- Jelly gives an international look. The fruits in it keep it fresh and healthy.
- It is perfect for all weather. It is very enjoyable as a light sweet dish.
- It allowed me to be creative without spending extra money
It is a dessert that looks global. But it is made with the simple things that we all have at home.
I will use the following ingredients to make this fruit jelly at home:
- Jelly crystals
- Apple
- Banana
- Orange
- Sweet Lime
- Peanuts
- Raisins
- Sugar
- Water

Here you can see all the required ingredients to make tasty mixed fruit jelly. Following is the complete preparation process.

First of all wash the apple with water to remove the dirt. Then we have to cut apple into small pieces so that it can be mixed easily. Make sure you remove the seeds first from the apple.

Then peel off bananas and then cut them into small pieces. I have cut long banana into two pieces. Then I cut each half banana into further small pieces.

Raisins are very important part. It is a dry fruit which is made from the grapes. It is good to dip the raisins in water so that they can become soft and fluffy. I dip them in normal fresh water. We can also use warm water.

I really like the addition of the oranges and sweet lime in the fruit jelly. I was inspired with this when I ate a jelly from Saudi Arabia and it has fluffy soft oranges in it.

To get more taste from the oranges and sweet lime we have to peel off the upper minor skin as well. We have to extract the internal soft part. The upper skin was tightly packed and I uncovered the internal soft part hardly.

Peanuts add crunchy taste to the fruits jelly. I cracked all the peanuts ???? and got their inside seed which is edible. I removed their thin brown skin as well and got white peanuts.
After preparing all the fruits to add in the jelly I started making jelly. Always first prepare the fruits before making jelly otherwise it will become thick before adding fruits.

I have taken water in the pan. The water is 400 ml.

This is the jelly crystals packet which is of pineapple flavour. In the market there comes different flavours of jelly and you can take any of your choice.

I have added jelly crystals in the water to warm it Nd dissolve it in the water completely to get soft and tasty jelly.

To get a sweet taste we need to add some sugar in the water. It if good to add sugar before adding jelly crystals but we can add both the things at the same time as well.

After adding sugar and jelly crystals we have to bake it at medium flame. We have to stirr it continuously so that it does not become thick before time and everything can be dissolved correctly.

When the liquid becomes thick and changes it's colour from the initial colour then stop heating it further. Now it is ready to use to make fruits jelly.

After making jelly keep it for some moments so that it can loose it's high temperature which can break the glass. Then fill the jars/cups/glass with fruit layers. I have glasses so I will use them.

Here you can see I have filled the glass with the fruits. I have layered apple at the bottom, then some oranges and sweet lime, then apple, and so on. At the top I added peanuts and raisins.

Right after filling glasses with the fruits I have added liquid jelly. Otherwise the jelly can become thick in the pan it will not be used as we want.

The glass filled with jelly is looking very amazing. The jelly is making its own space in the glass in between the fruits.

I got some liquid jelly spare from these two glasses. I made some small jelly cups with the topping of peanuts.

After filling glasses with jelly we have to keep them for 30 to 40. In this duration it will become thick jelly and the fruits will be congested in it.

After waiting for some time I have picked one glass and emptied it. The jelly came out in full mould just like the shape of the glass. It did not break. The soft fruit jelly is ready to eat. So in this way you can make fruit jelly dessert at home and enjoy the real and fresh fruits taste along with dry fruits. We can add any fruits according to our choice.
Which local ingredients did you add to make this dessert international?
I used fresh fruits and some dry fruits for this mixed fruit jelly. These are very common in Pakistan. Here is some more detail regarding these ingredients:
- Apple is used for the crunch and freshness.
- Banana is used for the natural sweetness and softness
- Orange is my favourite of all these because of its citrusy flavor.
- Sweet Lime (Mausami) is used to get another refreshing taste.
- Peanuts are used in it because they add a desi crunchy twist in this mixed fruit jelly.
- Raisins are very amazing with their natural sweetness.
- Sugar & Water are the basic ingredients to balance sweetness in the jelly.
These are all everyday local ingredients. But when these are combined with the jelly crystals then they create a dessert. That dessert looks like a modern fruit jelly cup which is served around the world.
The bright colours and the mixed textures give it a global cafe style presentation.
What inspired your flavor combination and decoration?
My inspiration for the flavour combination came from the following things:
Colourful Fruit Cups: I have seen colourful fruit cups in the international desserts. I wanted something that looks bright. I wanted something that has layers and looks attractive.
Pakistan Fruit Chast: The idea of mixing apples, bananas, and some citrus fruits came in my mind from the traditional fruit chaat. But I transformed it into a jelly dessert.
Texture Balancing: The texture and decoration of the dessert is balanced in the following way:
- Jelly is smooth and bouncy.
- Fruits are soft and juicy.
- Peanuts are crunchy.
- Raisins are chewy.

I layered the fruits inside the jelly to make it look like a fancy global-style fruit gelatin. I tried to keep the natural beauty of the fruits visible. The colourful fruits floating in jelly make the presentation full of fun and visually appealing.
How would you describe the final taste and the feeling it gives?
The final taste of the mixed fruit jelly is sweet, light, juicy, fruity, and refreshing. Every bite gives a delightful taste and mix of texture.
In each bite softness comes from banana. It contains crispy from the apply pieces. It has juiciness from the orange and sweet lime. It has bounce of jelly. Each bite has crunchy feeling from the peanuts. The raisins add sweet chewiness from the raisins.

It feels like a cool, refreshing, and international dessert. But it has been made with the simplicity and from the things easily available locally.
The dessert is colourful as well as chilled. It is very satisfying. It is the one that lifts mood immediately. It makes you feel refreshed.
I would like to invite @sergeyk, @chant, @ruthjoe to join this challenge.
