Omenuko Bridge has claimed so many lives in the past due to its dilapidated condition . It became a death trap that so many dreaded. All hope was lost as a result of incompetent construction companies or wil I say that the past administration were not ready and willing to construct the bridge. They kept giving excuses that the forces in the water didn't allow them to construct it.

This particular bridge has finally been constructed after decades of sad news on it as it has claimed the lives of so many people in the community and beyond. All thanks to the Almighty who used the present governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Oti to lift my people out of danger.

.In my school where I am working, we had a congregation that was convened by our Rector on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 who used that avenue to invite everyone to his hometown because he is also from the same village with me. He also declared that Friday, a lecture free day and promised that there will be more than enough vehicles that will convey both students and lecturers to the community where this commissioning will take place.

It was a joyful occasion and though I was having having double minds wether to attend or not due to my own lectures at the Akwaibom State University, I kept thinking about it until that very Friday morning, 13th day of February 2026 when the commissioning was to take place. I called my older brother who has been advertising this event as the President General of my own community to ask how the preparation was going, he told me that he was with my Rector the day before as they were making the arrangements and he was able to tell the Rector that I am the sister.

Out of that excitement of the fact that the Rector has known me so well, I was moved to attend. I got ready and zoomed to my school where vehicles were already taking people to the venue. There were still enough vehicles to convey people. I got my t-shirt but it was too big and I didn't bother to wear it.

As soon as we got there, the Governor was already there and the commissioning was ongoing. I quickly spotted my brother who was gorgeously dressed as one of the organisers. He was very happy to see me and we took pictures

I crossed the bridge following the old dilapidated bridge on foot since the old one was over crowded. I had to carry out my adventurous mission of going down to the river, washing my hands and drinking the water and also to capture the bridge from down there. One of the videos I have uploaded here will show that. Then, I quickly left that bridge to the Ozu Abam High School where my people are to host the Governor..

The music was on, the stage was set and everyone apart from those at the commissioning spot were seated including the traditional rollers from all the villages in Abam. My on Eze was there too. I reached out to him and exchanged pleasantry. As it's my custom, I took a picture of him as he was seated.

The event began as soon as the commissioning was over and the Governor and his Entourage arrived . Dignitaries were introduced and recognised, cola nut was shared, speeches were given in turns from the sons of the soil who held one position of office or the other in the State. They were all overwhelmed by the show of love that Governor has shown to my people.

There were a lot of cultural displays including the masquerades from various communities, traditional dance groups and all the rest of them.

Then, the Executive Governor of Abia State, mounted the pulpit and gave his own speech as well as made promises of other commissionings that will take place in no distant time of which my own kindred will benefit from. It was really a joyful moment. I was so happy that after so many years, we are remembered.

Come to think of it, it is through him that I am able to get a government work in my own state which has given me this opportunity to witness this grand event. I am so happy and I thank the Almighty for this opportunity. Yes, there are still good people who are doing good. While we await the time when all things will be made new everywhere and not just in some areas by our Dear God Jehovah through his Son Jesus Christ, we will make wise use of the opportunities we get now.
