Hello guys! Good day to you all. It's your favorite friend, @okokon. How are you doing this Monday? I hope you're doing well. Saturday was hectic for me. It was a cultural day celebration for the children in my school. I was massively involved. From preparing the children in my house to becoming a Master of Ceremony and one of the judges, the event consumed ninety percent of my day. It was memorable. Stay with me, let me take you on a tour of what happened on Saturday.

It was an awesome event. Cultural day is held in my school once a year. Because it's held once a year, students and teachers take time to make adequate plan in order to present a top-notch activities for the guests. From the preparation to the execution of the event, I was at the front coordinating my students for a success.
Students were shared into four houses. These houses represent four culture in Nigeria - Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Ibibio. The houses competed with one another on the cultural display of their ethnic groups. They were to compete on dressing, language, food, songs, dance, etc. I was in the Blue House that represented the Hausas.

My Hausa, my house

I was already in school before 8am to help prepare the children for my house. We were expecting high profile guest- the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in my State, to attend. Because the last Saturday was ear-marked for state sanitation by the government, the celebration started late. By 10am that was billed, the attendance was not encouraging but the program commenced.

The attendance at the event

Each of the houses presented its rich cultural display that caught the attention of the audience. My house performed remarkably remarkable. Although we came second, after the Ibibios, the Hausas were awesome in their presentation. This was because the children had to learn the language, the dress code and how to cook the food of the Hausas.

In the absence of other judges at the head table, I was invited as an MC to be one of the judges. We assessed food cooked by different ethnic groups. The criteria for assessment included food presentation, taste, condiments in cooking, knowledge of how to cook the food. The Igbo food caught my attention. The aroma was inviting.

The event came to an end around 6.40pm. After the event, we had a meeting with our proprietor, Mr. Ubon Inyang. The meeting elapsed into 8pm. Thereafter, we took a group picture. This is how we dressed as staff. I was behind.

I came back home by 9pm and was exhausted. After taking bath, I slept off. That was how our cultural day went. It was awesome and memorable. Thank you for reading my diary. Have a great time
