Can you imagine becoming a widow or widower few hours of getting married? It's the most painful ordeal no one should ever experience. We do hear of spouses kidnapped a night to their wedding day but this was different in a movie called the Herd. The movie producer and director got inspired by the current trend in Nigeria about herd men kidnapping and slaughtering people in the forest.

The news of terrorists terrorising Nigerians is on the high and he made a movie to portray Nigerian's present. Though to him, it's a fictional movie for security reasons, but to Nigerians, it's a movie that talks about the true events happening in Nigeria currently.

Even before the release of this movie, we have heard series of cases where spouses get kidnapped or killed before or during the marriage. Some get involved in an accident. So permit me to tell you about the herd which pictures Nigeria's present. What happened in this movie happened to my aunt.

If you watch this movie, you'll be amazed by the twists, tensions, suspense and the likes.

Did the movie make you more curious about the real-life story?

The movie talks about Nigeria's present where we're faced with a threat situation. Our parents, children and adults are faced with terrorists attacks and kidnapping and that's a current trend in Nigeria. This has been happening long before the movie was released. The movie came in timely to expatiate the threat and how we should be on guard when we face such a situation.

After watching the movie, I was moved to tears. It made me curious as to how those kidnapped in Nigeria are faring. Is this how scared to death they are? How heartless can people be to just kill for fun? This is what's happening and it's a true life story of spouses who have been kidnapped from their fellow spouse and made to pay huge ransoms otherwise they'll eliminate their hostage. I never want to experience such a situation. I just put myself in their shoes as curiousity nearly killed me as it killed the cat. Most people say experience is the best teacher. You won't understand the feeling until it's made part of your story.

Like I said, my aunt had this as part of her story. Her husband was killed a night to their wedding day because of their delayed response in giving the ransom mentioned without negotiation. How do these hostages feel when they are in the presence of people who threaten to burst their skull every second?

Which scene or moment felt the most powerful or emotional?

I'll start with the scene that felt the most powerful. It was when the wife to one of the bandits who kidnapped the hostages betrayed her husband to preserve her life. Her husband killed the Boss of bandits in that forest, a Boss from a different clan. To protect her life and interest, she reported her husband to members of that clan knowing fully well that some day, they'll strike. She didn't even wait for them to strike, she took the leap already. When it was dawn on her husband's bandit group, she was saved while the rest of the bandits were stoned to death.

This protrays the power of a woman using betrayal means. Most women today do similar things just to protect their interests. They'll rather leave you in the dark then follow you there. If she didn't admit, she would have been dead with her husband, a man who kidnapped her, raped her and turned her to his wife.

Another powerful scene was when the police drove from Kogo state to Ekiti state in less than 5 minutes. The twist was just so mad and it got people laughing. The defendant side was just so weak and not as powerful as those bandits in terms of tactics and the likes.

The most emotional scene was when Derin, the wife who was wedded 2 hours before her husband got shot in front of her. She watched her husband in her wedding dress, being killed by those bandits. It didn't even stop there. She watched her husband shredded into meat like a fowl. This shouldn't happen to anyone. She turned into a widow on her wedding day.

Another scene was when the wife of Gosi got so emotionally attached to the heartbreaking scene of her husband being kidnapped on a call with him. She did everything possible to raise 50M naira to bail him out. Her emotions got me real bad.

What lessons did you learn from the true story portrayed?

I learnt one integral lesson about being security conscious and cautious as well in the face of serious situations that may cost you your life. Making wrong moves as a hostage can cause your life. One lesson is that while you're trying to play smart, be conscious and cautious. This was in the case of Gosi and Derin. They were fortunate enough not to be caught. It would have been so bad if those policemen didn't intervene. If Derin husband didn't run from the car, he wouldn't have been shot.

Another lesson I learnt is that betrayal can lead to good and bad consequences. Most times betraying a friend can save your life but it must be for good and cautious reasons. Betrayal on its own is bad, but in cases of life and death, it's not difficult to decide. If one of threatened, one can deny knowing his wife just to save his life. Another lesson I learnt from the story is that no matter what you're passing through in life, just know that happiness can't be obtained forever. You'll definitely face tribulations in the flesh.

How did it make you feel about the people or time period it represented?

Talking about the time period the movie was released, it passes a message to Nigerians to be careful and cautious as terrorists are terrorising Nigeria. It breeds in a high level of security as these bandits are killing people unnecessarily. Children are kidnapped from school which poses great worries to teachers and parents to be careful.

After watching the movie, I felt downhearted that people are so unfortunate to fall into the hands of these ones. I just felt I could have magical powers to kill all these bandits terrorising Nigeria. It made me feel insecure and cautious when entering vehicles to places as a lady.

I feel parents shouldn't be racists when it comes to marriage. The Gosi family disgusted me when they refused to bail their son because he married someone from a different tribe and it was the lady he married requesting for 50M to bail her husband. Everything about this movie is a lesson.
