THE DIARY GAMES : 5/12/2025, An Insanely Hectic Day
So today, Friday, December the 5th, was such a hectic day for me. I woke up as early as can be just so that I do not end up late at work. The main reason I had to wake early was so I could cook as well. Yesterday, while on my way back from work, I stopped by the market to buy a few things (foodstuffs). I had no food at home as at yesterday morning when I left for work, so I thought about how i could ensure that there was food today so that I don't start my day on an empty stomach. So while at the market yesterday, I bought melon (a cup), and had it grinded, bought some hides commonly called cowskin or pómó here in Nigeria, I bought some fresh red bell pepper, some seasoning cups and ice fish. I had red palm oil and garri at home so there was no need buying those items.
On getting home, I was so tired that I had to suspend the cooking. What I rather did yesterday was season the ice fish and pómó, after cooking till done, I took the fish and about two pieces of the well chopped/cooked cowskin, put it in a small bowl, boiled water for garri (or swallow) and then ate that for dinner. After that, I went to bed praying for today to come. So today came, and I woke early as stated earlier, started preparing things for the soup like Washing the bitter leaves I had plucked from a neighbor's compound, after washing, I brought out the gas cylinder, put it on and started cooking. First I bleached the red oil palm for about two minutes before going in with the grinded melon. I let this fry for bout eight minutes so it properly fries and then went in with the cowskin and the meat stock so that everything mixes well. After some time, I then went in with the fish and lastly the thoroughly and neatly washed bitter leaves. In no time, soul was some and so I put it down and boiled some water for garri (swallow). Some minutes later, water was hot and so I made swallow and ate before leaving for work. On getting to the gate, I had to bring out my reflective jacket so I can gain entrance and that was it. Usually, there's a site where we usually work, but lately, there has been no been no work for us even when we get to the company and this has forced almost all of us to go look for jobs else where. So yesterday, while work searching within the company's yard, I met a man, who happens to be a tiler. I told him I wanted to work and he offered me an opportunity to work with him and his team. I am in charge of mixing cement with sand so that he can use the mortar for level cutting before the real tile job comes. So I did this while the other two boys transferred the already mixed materials to the areas where it is needed. After some time, I got tired and took a break. Usually, since it's daily pay, we usually do not observe breaks unlike when I used to work directly with the company with the account booking us daily. So I worked and when I was hungry, I went on a break, bought some light snacks and ate and afterwards, I noticed I was feeling drowsy and so I slept for a few minutes. After some time, I was up again, and this was about 4:30pm. At this point, was simply beginning to wind down time so I could close for the day. To summarize the day, I went and carried about four more bags of cement and mixed properly. After that, I rounded up, calling it a day!
I went and the met the tiler man who employed me and he paid me for the day's job. After collecting the money, I proceeded to the stream where I usually have my bath, took a shower and left for home. On getting home, I warmed the melon soup I had cooked earlier this morning, made swallow and ate that for dinner. After eating, I was off to look for where to charge my phone so that it doesn't go off on me. Luckily, one of the compounds around had put on their generator and so went and charged while waiting somewhere before I can come and get my phone so that I can leave for house. At about 10:16pm, I went and carried my phone and gently I started trekking home. Tired and weak, once on getting home, I simply used the last energy in me to spread the mosquito net to avoid mosquitoes disturbing me, said my prayers and then went to bed. So ladies and gents, that's it for today on the DIARY GAMES. See you all again on another day in another spot. Love you all, bye.....😊
