Disappointment means failing to get what you have hoped for or that which someone has promised you. Disappointment can come to us at any point in life, such as when we are disappointed by friends or loved ones.

For example, let's promise to do something for you then when the time comes I fail to do the thing for you, it means I have disappointed you and you will feel bad about it. Disappointment is failing to meet expectations or that which you have hope for.

Have you ever been disappointed before? What caused it?

Yes, I have been disappointed many times in my life. There was someone who said I should come to his office for something very important, who kept telling me to come as if I would be treated so nicely. On the day that I visited him in his office, I was disappointed by how I was being treated.

Why is it so hard to deal with disappointment?

The reason why it is so hard to deal with disappointment is because of the high hope and trust we place in someone who promised us. For example, if I say to you that I will get you a phone next week, you will be so happy to have it and when next week comes you will be disappointed, you will feel bad about it, and find it so hard to deal with it because of how you had hope for it.

What can we do to make disappointments less painful?

What we can do to make disappointment less painful is to promise what we can afford to give out. Also, it is for us to say what we can be able to do, and if we cannot do what we promise, it is for us to let the person know earlier in time.
