One picture one story

The above picture holds a very powerful memory for me, one that can never be forgotten no matter the circumstances. But before I proceed to the main story, let me just start like this: in the Nigerian constitution, it is stated that all services rendered must be paid for. That means that when a person renders services to you, they must be paid.

Additionally, my adolescent age wasn't all that good because I had to go out and fend for myself despite being very young. It was based on the fact that if I did not go out for some daily jobs, that meant no food for me, to the extent that I nearly did that which I wasn't supposed to do.

Seeing the picture alone makes me cry because it reminds me of my childhood and how I was struggling to survive each day due to being neglected in the harsh reality of life.

But the actual story behind the above picture took place six years ago in our street. The civil engineering company FERMA was constructing our local roads, and we (my friends I) s) always went there to labor and get paid.

Then on that fateful day of the above picture, I went out about a few minutes past 8 in the morning to work, and when I got there, my friends were already there, so I joined them in the work. Even the contractor was sending me some work and showing me what to do, which means that I was working and that he'd acknowledged my labor.

But unfortunately, after working all day, it was getting dark and it was time to get paid. I was surprised when the contractor called out others except me and paid them their wages. I begged him to pay me mine, and he said that "I came late" and then entered his car and left.

At that point, I stood there, unable to move for a few minutes, and tears dropped from my eyes. My friends even managed to contribute 200 naira (2 steem) each for me, which totaled 600 naira (6.5 steem).

Ever since then, I've stayed away from that job but vowed to make money in this life so as never to be cheated like that again because no one deserves to be treated like that.

I worked a whole day with him; he was there, he saw me working, and if he had no intention of paying me, he should have just told me earlier, and I would have left. Meanwhile, I worked and earned my wages, but he refused to pay me, and I will never forget his name. "Hilary"
