SLC-S29/W6-“Thinking and Ideas!| One Idea Worth Spreading!”
Introduction
When I look outside from my place in Dhaka, all I see are concrete walls and asphalt roads. In the heat, it feels like my body is burning. In this city, it is hard to even find a spot to stand under the shade of a tree.
But whenever I think about the village, my heart feels a little cooler. In 2009, our family planted a litchi orchard in our village. People from a nursery came to help, and all of us worked together, placing each sapling carefully into the soil.
Today, that orchard has more than a hundred litchi trees. On hot summer days, the shade there is so cool and soothing that you just want to sit and stay awhile. We also planted betel nut trees along the edge of the pond. Every year, we add new trees. That small decision back then now gives us not only shade, but also good revenue.
My Idea One, Tree for Every Family
I believe that whether in a city or a village, if every family plants at least one tree each year, the world will slowly begin to change. It could be in a pot, on a rooftop, on a balcony, or directly in the ground. No matter how small the space, it is always possible to plant a tree. Guava, orange, lemon, basil any plant will do. If we plant fruit trees, they help meet nutritional needs while also keeping the environment beasapling,
Why Is This Idea Important Now?
The temperature of the Earth is rising every year. Because of global warming, the ice in the polar regions is melting and sea levels are rising. The geological balance of the environment is being damaged. Oxygen levels are decreasing. One of the biggest reasons behind this is the reduction of trees.
Living in Dhaka, I feel this every single day. There are hardly any trees in the city, which makes the heat unbearable. But when I visit our orchard in the village, I realize how much difference a tree can make. The trees we planted in 2009 now provide shade, fruit, and a cooler environment. If we had not planted them back then, we would not be enjoying these benefits today.
If we want to leave behind a beautiful, green, oxygen-rich planet for future generations, we have to start now. There is no time to delay.
Who Needs to Hear This Most?
City dwellers who think planting trees is only for villagers. Those who say, “I don’t have space.” In reality, a small pot and a little willingness are enough. Planting a guava or orange tree on a balcony is not difficult.
This message is also important for the younger generation, who are becoming increasingly disconnected from nature. When a child plants a tree at a young age, a bond forms with that tree. A sense of responsibility grows along with it.
What Could Be the First Small Step?
Go to your nearest nursery today. Buy a small sapling it costs only 50 to 100 taka. Bring it home and plant it in a pot or in the ground. If you are unsure how to plant it, ask the nursery staff. They will guide you. That is exactly how we learned back in 2009.
Just one tree. That is how it begins.
Conclusion
On hot days, when I sit in our litchi orchard, I realize that this peace is the result of one small decision our family made years ago. If we had not planted those trees 17 years ago, we would not be enjoying their shade today. The tree we plant now may one day become shade for the next generation. It is one of the simplest ways to leave them a better world. One tree for every family, this single habit has the power to change the world.
