“Why Mental Health Is Ignored in Our Society”
Assalam o alaikum.
Mental health is abouts how we think feels and handle stress in our daily life.It is just as important as physical health but sadly many peoples do not give it the same attention. In our society if someone has a fever or pain people quickly show concerned and suggest treatment. But when someone feels sad anxious or mentally tired their feelings are often ignored or misunderstood. One big reason mental health is ignord is lack of awareness. Many peoples do not understand what mental health really means. They think it is only about serious mental illness and they do not realized that everyday stress depression and anxiety are also part of it.Because of this people do not takes it seriously.
Another reasons is social stigma. In many communities talking about mental health is seen as a weakness.Peoples are afraid that others will judge them or make fun of them. They fears being called “crazy” or “weak ” so they hide their feelings. This makes the problem even worse because they suffer silently.Family and cultural beliefs also play a role. Some families believes that mental health problems are not real and that a persons just needs to be strong or pray more. While faith is important and can give comfort it should not replace proper understanding and supports.Ignoring the problems does not make it go away.
Lack of proper support systems is another issue. In many places there are not enough mental health professionals like psychologists or counselors.Even if help is available people may not know where to go or may not afford the cost. This makes it difficult for people to seek help even when they want to.In today’s fast-moving world people are also too busy with work studies and responsibilities. They do not take time to check on their own mental health or others.Social media also adds pressure as people compare their lives with others and feel unhappy or insecure.
To improve this situation we need to start by spreading awareness. Schools colleges and communities should talk openly about mental health.People should be encouraged to share their feelings without fear.Families should listen with care and support instead of judging. We should also remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength.Just like we go to a doctor for physical illness we should feel comfortable seeking help for mental health.
