SC-S28/W2-Movie Highlights|Based on True Events(12 Years a Slave)
Hello..!!
My Dear Friends,
I am @tanvirahammad10 from #Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Today I am here to participate in the SC-S28/wk2: "Movie Highlights: "Based on True Events" Contest organized by @ruthjoe ma'am. Thanks to @ruthjoe ma'am for organizing this wonderful contest.
12 Years a Slave is not just a movie, it is a living history, which presents before our eyes the real picture of the terrible oppression of man over man. This film is based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a free black citizen of New York in 1841. He was deceived and sold into slavery and had to spend 12 consecutive years under inhuman torture. After watching this movie, not only emotions but also a deep question arises in the audience: How can people be so cruel? And how can someone live so patiently and bravely?
Did the movie make you more curious about the real-life story?
This movie has made me even more curious about real history. Solomon Northup was a free man, he had a wife, children, a home, and respect. But he was chained just because of the color of his skin. This incident made me think
★How many people were deceived like him?
★How many were separated from their families?
★Did they ever get free?
These questions opened up new doors for me to learn about history. It made me want to learn more about the American Civil War, the abolition of slavery, and the human rights movement. This movie brought history to life by taking it out of the pages of books and bringing it to life before my eyes.
Which scene or moment felt the most powerful or emotional?
There are several scenes in this movie that sit heavy in my chest. However, there were some scenes that moved my heart
The Hanging Scene
When Solomon was hung from a tree with a rope, but was not allowed to die completely, his toes were only pressed to the ground. He hung there for hours in the chains of slavery. Other slaves were working around him. No one could do anything.
This scene shows us:
How helpless a person can be
How silent a spectator society can be
Injustice sometimes becomes “normal”
This scene was silent but very powerful.
Patsy’s Torture
The character of Patsy was the most heartbreaking chapter in this movie. She is a victim of mental, physical, and sexual abuse. But it was not her fault. The suffering of this character presents a cruel picture of women's oppression.
What lessons did you learn from the true story portrayed?
The lessons learned from this movie are not the lessons of any ordinary movie. These are important messages for life:
★Freedom is not just a word, it is life. The way we breathe every day, express our opinions, make our own decisions.all are the fruits of freedom. But Solomon's life shows that if freedom is taken away, people only survive, but do not live.
★There are two types of people: cruel and humane. On the one hand, there were cruel masters, and on the other hand, there were some people who took risks and helped him. This shows.
★If you lose hope, everything is over. Even after 12 years of slavery, Solomon did not forget his identity, did not lose hope in his life.
How did it make you feel about the people or time period it represented?
In an era when people were bought and sold. Families were broken up. Children were separated from their parents. There was a brutality in the name of civilization. Watching this movie made me feel. People have advanced in technology, but not in humanity. Because such cruelty still exists on the other side of the world, only in form.
12 Years a Slave didn't just make me cry, it changed me. I learned to value freedom more. I learned to understand human suffering deeply. I learned to see history not just as a story, but as a true, real life. This is a movie that you may forget once you see it. But the feeling can never be forgotten.
