Create a piece inspired by the phrase “Almost There.”

The image above is a typical representation of the theme "almost there" given the expression from both the human body posture and climatic position that vanishes into the horizon. An expression that seems to be endless without any mile markers to show coverage and achievements.

It is an unfinished journey marred by a strong feeling of hopefulness. His clothes looked worn but not ragged to show devastation but rather a zeal to stay rugged that something good is ahead. The beginning always seems difficult but with every mile covered brings forth resilience.

That I have not reached my destination yet doesn't prove that I will not get there. That my destination isn’t in sight does not mean I will not get there. The gap between my start point and my arrival point is all about my self-determination, steadfastness, and resilience to finish strong.

Sometimes in life, our journey is a full representation of this image. For instance, after graduation and our compulsory NYSC service year, we begin to scout for jobs through the making of applications and submission of resumes. We are not sure of which would turn out to be successful but all we know is to keep trying.

We only keep being hopeful that this will turn out to be successful without any timeline in mind. This does not remove the tribulations on the way. How we run out of cash for taxis, how we get humiliated in our desperate course to secure jobs, how we were made a mockery of our certificates and education at large.

We find ourselves trying to resubmit in places we've already applied before now due to the determination to stay through. If we stop, who would bankroll us in our desert moments having known that we are already struggling in the entire application dynamics? Thus, we have to keep going and believing we are "Almost There".

Our belief here is that, once this desired job is achieved, it is that key that unlocks every other door. But the waiting time is where we have the whole work to deal with. This is where we have to push harder, stay strong until something different happens, and be optimistic that the end is near. Not giving up during this wait time is a breakthrough ahead.

Is your interpretation positive, negative, or mixed? Explain.

My explanation above is positive. The phrase "Almost There" is a determination-bound process in which its domain is tailored towards an anticipated result. We can only anticipate in such a scenario when this phrase is in use. It doesn't matter what happens in the present, the future is the decider of how far our determination and dexterity could take us.

This is a process path that brings us our desires. As I explained above, our effort throughout the application process and job-seeking moment could be termed we are almost there but this is a process. It is completed when we finally secure one at the end. Therefore, staying strong and determined is a positive virtue. However, this is the hardest way to a journey time but surely the gateway to greater things ahead.

What does “almost” teach about patience or persistence?

In any journey with Almost in its context, we have to understand that it's the hardest part therein but the surest path. Patience in all of this isn’t just an act of waiting but trusting while waiting during this moment. When we are almost there, patience comes into play and this becomes active by what we do. It is not enough to be patient while we walk down that endless road but the determination to end the walk with a result.

Persistent is what we do consistently given a pattern that supports the result. Like the man in the image, who was only walking without sprinting, he is determined to achieve the result by being consistent and persistent in his path to the result. Persistent in this context comes with a purpose which is an action domain that drives the result.

In either of the two words, they mean something in this context "Almost there" by tagging the "WHY" we must be patient or persistent in the started journey. If there is no essence, reason, purpose, or anticipation for getting involved in the phrase, then, we can only expect a crashed effort. With this, we already positioned our minds on the arrival path even before we arrived.

Share a personal or imagined scenario that connects to your piece.

I have already created a scenario for answering the first question above. I painted a picture of a man who had just graduated and started a job-hunting quest. There is no specified end in view but he knows he can only create an end to his journey through purposeful application. This is a journey that is anchored on purpose and determination to be gainfully employed.

The process can only be linked to the phrase "Almost There" since there is no job at hand but with effort put in, there is hope and this translates to results when purpose and determination are the watchwords throughout this trial time.

I believe the phrase "Almost There" is an action word that allows us to anticipate and be hopeful of our desired result. We wait purposefully and determined in this context.
