People may already know that putting down fertilizers before planting increases crop yield, but they don't always know why it is important at the time of planting. Having good nutrients in the soil right at planting, the crop seed is able to grow faster and develop a much better root system.

The reason for faster growth and better root development has something to do with root uniformity, but growers don't really mention this aspect when talking about early nutrient applications for their crops.

The unevenness that will happen in the root development ends up creating problems later on when crops are harvested, you would most definitely have some crops being ready before others, and that one also creates additional problems for the farmer when they attempt to manage harvest.

When there is heavy rains which causes leaching can lead to loss of fertilizer even before the plant can get the chance to use it, but some don't realize the importance of where they apply fertilizer and will instead apply the fertilizer to the soil surface and hope for the best. That's a guess work that doesn't guarantee good results.

For me, I would say the best way to apply fertilizers to ensure that the plant roots receive the maximum benefit is to apply the fertilizer directly into the root zone.

There are many fields you see that show a strong group of crops on one half of the field but a weak group of crops on the other half, then they'll just immediately associate that problem with drought or disease.

But know that sometimes, this outcome is because of poor nutrient availability from the very beginning of the crops' growth cycle. If your practice early fertilizer input, you can rectify the problem but it's not the only guarantee, you must also use the appropriate type of fertilizers, it's better to not look at price and look at what's right. Because some just look for the cheapest available.
