Sunflowers are actually hundreds of tiny flowers making seeds in one head

Typically people will look at the beautiful petals of the flower. They don't realize that the real work is done in the center of the flower where the disk florets are. These little things have both male and female parts in the same flower. I saw one of these flowers today and I wondered to myself how they make the seeds.

Apparently each little floret creates its own seed. So that means the flower I'm looking at is a whole bunch of flowers in one round head. I like touching and feeling the flowers and for sunflowers the stem of the flower is rough and I always like the way the look. Of course like I've said in previous blog, lilly flowers are my favorite but sunflower seeds are one of my favorite snacks which make sunflower my second favorite flower.

The petals of the flower are very beautiful when they bloom but the seeds are more valuable to us when we use them to make oil or we eat them as a snack.

In my plastic bowl, I have some seeds, it looks odd that the centre part is dark and the outer edges are bright. The wind sometimes blows the plant too hard to be able to see it. The plant I have is taller than most others. Most other plants do not have a combination of male and female in every single floret that is so small. I know a friend who has a large hedge but no sunflowers. I didn't want to do the calculation for the amount of seeds yet because it'll take me a while to figure out so perhaps next time.

Some seeds are black and so when all of the seeds bloom, they will also be in a very tight and crowded pattern growing together than if they had plenty of room available for all of them to grow in.
