Appreciating the cultural meaning behind a beloved Ghanaian dish

The aroma of groundnut soup fills the air of a room before you even start drinking it. For me Omo tuo is the best combination with this soup. I had this for lunch after church and the sermon was about gratitude so you can guess why I'm writing this blog 😂.

You can smell the mixture of food that is being prepared. You might probably say everyone will praise their favorite dish like this so I'm being bias because it's my favorite dish. I haven't seen anyone that would say they hate this dish but then again I haven't traveled much and I'm mostly an introvert with my family.

Adding prekese makes it all the better for some people like my aunt's coworker's wife does a lot of the time with her soup for as long I can remember. I have no idea how much prekese she has enjoyed her whole life but she's in a middle 50s.

The reason I posted this in Steem agro is to appreciate the very fact that agricultural work is the foundation of everything. The groundnuts, the tomatoes, the palm oil, they all come from farmers who wake before dawn each morning to work the earth even when they don't feel like it. And then the crops are sent to the market and we use them, most of times without even stopping to consider who made it possible for us to eat.

To really appreciate food isn't just because it's great food, it's because there's a long line of people involved, a long line of people working hard, weather and lots of time has gone into making this food and getting that food into your bowl or plate.

Omo Tuo has such a deep cultural significance in Ghana but it doesn't happen without the rice farmers.

At times we talk about the heritage of the food we eat, but we don't follow it back to it's beginning, as far back as to the seed and back to the person who planted it with the hope that the rain would come.
