Are sugarcane and remembered school days

in Steem-Agro4 days ago

Right now I've got some sugarcane sticks I bought coming home from the market yesterday. I think I got a good deal by the road side because when I pick it up it feels heavy enough in my hands for what it's worth. I remember years ago in junior high when my school had an open gate and the mallam would chop up all of the sticks into little pieces for us.

Back then, we used to say that the bottom half tasted better than the top. I just ripped a long piece off with my teeth, and my jaw is starting to feel tired but because I enjoy it so much I'm going to keep going. Some people will use a knife, but that doesn't seem right to me for some reason.

When the juice is running down the back of my throat it starts to feel sticky. And I don't if it's this particular one or my age because I haven't had some in a long time. I've got to figure out somewhere to put all of the husks after so they won't attract ants later on tonight. I'm asking myself why did myself and classmates used to get in fights over this stuff while we were standing outside in the sun? I even got a small stain on my shirt because of the juice that splashed out when I pulled a piece off.

I've also heard the some farmers are upset about the rain and say their sugarcane is growing poorly this season too, this is very unfortunate news. The price of sugarcane was much lower last week than it is now but it will probably change again soon too. I hate when I have to give or get back change everyday when I buy groceries, everything is getting more expensive for some stupid reason. Maybe it will rain again tomorrow or not but it did last night.

Earlier I heard someone yelling outside my window because of the rain. And if you know Ghana, heavy rain means lights out. If the sugarcane remains small then their sugarcane juice will not be a lot at all. The store owners are also upset now too, but it is what it is.
