Banana and plantain difference
The bananas found in Americans grocery stores are called Cavendish bananas. Bananas are very sweet fruit and if I'll have one fruit it's definitely going to be banana.
Bananas are very different from plantain obviously but they look so similar. The biggest difference between the two is that banana can be eating without cooking and I haven't seen anyone try to cook it. Maybe I'll research to find out if people actually do that. But it's just common sense that no one would because most fruits can be eaten without preparation but some like bananas have counterparts, for banana it's plantain and it needs to be cooked.
Plantains are thicker and longer than bananas. Also plantains are not as sweet and they mainly classified as a vegetable. They can be eaten when they're green and they have in more of a starchy potato texture. Green plantain can also be added to stews like potato or steamed or boiled in maybe broth or gravy for a side dish like starchy vegetables.
Plantains become sweet as they ripen so once they turn black they are as sweet or possibly even sweeter than a banana. Plantains become softer as they continue to ripen and have a more slimy texture when they're spoiling. You should eat plantains when they have a lot of black spots on them and bananas should be eaten when they have none, so kind of opposite.
Plantains can be fried, boiled or baked. Even plantains that are sweeter have different taste than most fruits.Plantains also go really well with spicy and meaty dishes. I would not attempt eating raw plantains. I don't know who can.
