Cowpeas for different meals
Many of the different types of legumes are referred to as beans. The type of beans I grew up eating, they call them black eyed peas. I understand what people in my community mean when they say black eyed peas are from West Africa. I certainly remember my elders in the community say that black eyed peas are from Africa and have always been here in America but they are not from America.
An easy for balanced diet quick meal would be to have cowpeas, pepper sauce at one side, vegetables, egg and Gari. It's one of my fast food to make when everyone needs to eat quickly and we are out of ingredients.
My experience with black eyed peas is that they can thrive in marginal soils. For some of the farmers I know in the community, when it comes to black eyed peas, he did not provide good enough irrigation and he did not babysit the plants.
The peas, were able to fully use the rainfall and sunlight in the region alone to grow all on their own. The only thing he does is pest control that's all. I have always thought that black eyed peas are of less value than other crops.
I have eaten this legume in so many different ways. My mother when she was alive would fry them for akara or Koose in the mornings and we really love the smell. I have also eaten them with rice, and at other places where the rice and beans were just as good. You can have this legume anywhere and love it.
