Maize farming struggles

Planted at the right time, it will be one of the best seeds you have grown in your whole life. If it's planted too early it will be lost in the ground. Maize does not mind if you have other things to do, it is not in a hurry at all. you are the one that usually has to stay there staring at the ground.

Once goats broke the fence but that is another story. Cutting the holes is different from preventing the weeds from growing back. It is not even physical strength. I get a backache after work even before noon. It is more economical to use a hoe but the chemicals available are very expensive in the shops. The best option is to use the hoe even though the leaves are very rough. They tend to scratch the skin.

I am not a fan of the pollen that is carried everywhere by them. You see the green color change. If the nitrogen is low, yellow leaves appear on the bottom.

I should have put more manure last week, the birds are more of a problem, they hang around just waiting for you to leave so they can come out. That resilience is always going to be there even when you want to go home and watch TV and is it really worth it? The yield probably will be in small this year with the weather they have been dry. I do hope this cob turns out ok. It is what it is. I'll go back and look at the north side of this plot tomorrow.
