Maize prices rising despite the good harvest

The price of maize at market is now crazy. Infact even the roadside ones that roast some and boil some and add salt to it, I had not eaten some in a really long time so I decided to go ask, when they told me the price it was more than double what it used to be.

Last season we got a lot of rain, the farming season was good according to the farmers. So the question is why is an olonka of it now so expensive? I went to the shop to pick up some to make food and the lady was quoting a price that didn’t make sense to me at all. Maybe it’s the cost of fueling the trucks or something related to that.

I don’t know but it’s now hard to keep up with all the factors they point to as reasons for raising the price all the time.

Sometimes we leave those bags just hanging in the warehouse while we are hungry. It’s not even about the rain anymore.

There was one guy complaining about fertilizer, I don’t know if he is lying or not but he also said the prices are high at the northern region.

Farmers grow corn because they know where it’s going, the feed mill is already there. I should have bought a bag of grain last month when the price was still low.

As I said at the beginning, the price has gone up. And the thing I've realized is that it's got nothing to do with the harvest date. If no one buys the corn, wouldn't it just stay there and goes to waste. There’s a guy fixing tractor engines by the side of the road. The truckers don’t start their engines until they get a phone call. Demand is what really moves the market. So I'm now asking myself whether demand played a role in the increased price of maize?
