Pigs are Smarter and cleaner than you think

When you see a pig or if I tell you to think about one, you usually think of something slimy muddy, dirty, and of no particular intelligence out there in the countryside waiting to become your next pork chop. Pigs are actually a lot smarter than you probably think. In fact, in many ways they can be smarter than dogs at least, they're also smart enough to have the same amount of mental ability as a 3 year old child.

Pigs have also shown through research that they can remember locations of stored food for up to weeks, even if they're not given any prompts and even more impressive, they can actually locate the hidden food by using a mirror, not many species can do that because it requires them to understand the concept of their reflection in the mirror. You see chickens from fighting their own reflections.

Pigs are also very social and communicate through over 20 different vocalizations of sounds based on their feelings. Whether they're hungry, happy, scared, they have sounds for each and each sound is distinct. Many pigs will want to wag their tails or run around when they hear music. I think this is the cutest thing ever although I still wouldn't want a pet pig because I don't like dirt at all but one thing I learned about them is that they are actually clean animals.

The mud pit thing you see them do, they do that because they have no natural way to cool their body temperature so they use mud to cool themselves down, like a built in HVAC system.

I didn't even know they were smart enough to play video games. Researchers have taught pigs to use a joystick with their snouts to hit targets and receive rewards on a video screen, by rewards I mean treats they're enjoy eating. Pigs can learn the link between action and reward much faster than you would expect from a farm animal.

We have ignored pigs as being intelligent animals. But the problem is the pigs display signs of intelligence in ways that we will not always recognize as intelligence displaying itself.
