Pineapples are way weirder than you think

Pineapples aren't actually one big frui, believe it or not, that's true. There are hundreds of individual fruits called eyes that fuse as they grow and turn into one big fruit. The plants that produce pineapples have not one but two other species of pineapple growing on them. It's kind of gross when you think about it.

Most people think pineapples grow on trees, but they don't, they actually produce fruit almost touching the ground. When I first started paying attention to the growing of as we all have our first time realizing things that some might already be used to, it looked weird to me. I expected a pineapple to grow very high up on a tree, but they grow much too close to the ground.

After eating fresh pineapple, do you ever get a weird tingly feeling in your mouth? That's because there's an enzyme in pineapple that digests protein while you eat it, which is why your mouth is getting that feeling when you eat the fruit.

I know it sounds awkward, when I say it's technically eating you back in your mouth while you eat it, but people really do enjoy eating pineapple. People get into huge arguments over whether or not they should put pineapple on pizza, but that's a different story for a different post for a different day. Either way, it's quite something that we think of pineapples like other fruits, when they're actually clusters of other little fruits that are basically pretending to look like one large fruit. But of course, that doesn't change the fact that they taste good or that we eat them all the time.
