SEED
I have just been thinking about this... would there be a crop to plant and harvest without having a preserved seed? The answer is no! Seed is the nucleus of farming. Without seeds infact, there would be no food at all.

A farmer doesn't just eat all harvested crops because in every seed carries a potential crop. With this, it simply means that farming starts with the seeds. The seed is grow into plants that bear more fruits or crops as the caes may be.

For seeds to begin bearing fruits, it gets fertilized by pollination. Seed is made up of the following:

  • The coat It protects and covers the seed
  • Embryo:This is an undeveloped plant that is inside the seed.
  • **It stores up food right inside it to enable it grow.

A seed embryo is made up of three main parts namely:

  • The cotyledons They are seed leaves and contributes in absorbing and to store food for the embryo. This happens when the seed is growing at its very early stage or beginning.

  • The radicle
The radicle is the first part of the seed that grows out to form the root.

  • The plumule
This is the part of the seed that grows upward to form the leaves, stem and shoot.

Agriculturists have identified four types of seeds in agriculture to include:

  • Authorized or certified seed
These are seeds that government or agricultural authorities approved for farmers. These seeds could be profitable for commercial farmers.

  • Hybrid seeds
This type of seeds is gotten by joining or crossing two different types of seeds to produce another high quality but the same seed.

  • Improved seedlings
These seeds are gotten through various agricultural research institutions.

  • Local seeds
These are the type of seeds that farmers cultivates on regularly on every farming seasons.

The seeds planted into the soil does not just grow in isolation. It requires moderated temperature, air, and water to make grow into a fruitful plant.

What Makes Seeds to Grow

There are three key necessary conditions that makes seeds to germinate and make good seedlings. These conditions are:

  • Enough rainfall or water
  • Climate and the
  • Oxygen

Just as the planting season is close, I'm gradually gathering my seeds for this year's farming season. While some of the seeds I reserved for this year's farming season would not be enough for my planting, I would source some other ones from other farmers or market. Some of the the seeds I have includes:

  • Melon
  • Pumpkin
  • Maize
These three different seeds are mostly cultivated and grown in my area. I would be planting them alongside some other suckers and tubers. So large scale farmers would be making a lot money from planting these seeds.

This is my take about seed as included the topic of this contest. I would be inviting the following persons to participate in this contest:
