So it is simply a practice that help plant to grow well. The mulch layer that is added to plants helps to protect and improve the soil, providing various benefits to the plants and garden environment making the garden look good.

What are the benefits of Mulching?

There are a lot of benefits of mulching which some of which are:

• Mulch reduces the evaporation of water from the soil, thereby helping plants to maintain consistent moisture levels.

• Mulching controls weeds by suppressing weed growth by blocking sunlight, water, and reducing competition for nutrients.

• Mulching helps to insulate the soil, keeping it cooler both in winter and summer.

• Mulching helps to prevent soil erosion that is caused by rain and wind.

What are the different types of Mulching?

There are two types of mulching which are;

• Organic Mulches
• Inorganic Mulches

Organic Mulches:

• Hah or Straw:
  This is good for flower beds and vegetable gardens.

• Bark or Wood Clips:
  This is common for landscape beds and best for long lasting.

• Compost:
  This enriches soil while mulching.

• Grass clippings:
  This is useful for vegetable beds

• Leave:
  This is shredded leaves that are eco-friendly.

Inorganic Mulches:

• Plastic mulch:
  This is used mainly in agriculture to retain moisture.

• Landscape Fabric:
  This allows water and air flow while preventing weeds.

• Rocks, Stones, or Gravel:
  This is long-lasting and decorative that is best for xeriscaping.
