Explain in detail the term storage

In agriculture the term "storage " means keeping the crops, grains, vegetables and fruits in a safe place. So that they do not spoil. It can be used for a long time.
It is not only a process of keeping the crops. But also a way of protecting from pests, diseases, moisture and other harmful factors.

• Ensuring Food Supply:
  By keeping crops in storage. The farmers can gradually sell the crop to the market. Instead of selling it immediately.

• The Stability Of Price:
  The stored crops control sudden shortages or excesses in the market. Keeping the prices stable.

• The maintaining of crop quality and the nutrition:
  With the proper storage. The grains, vegetables and the fruits stay fresh nutritious and flavorful.

The Types Of Storage :

• Cold Storage:

This is for the fruits and vegetables. The temperature is kept low. So that do not spoil for a long time.

• Grain Silos:
  The large storage bins for wheat, rice, corn etc.

• The traditional methods:
  Pottery, baskets or small barns used in particular areas.

Result:

Storage in agriculture is essentil. It is not only for the preservation of crops. But also plays a vital role in food supply and the quality protection.

What is the importance of storage in Agriculture?

The importance of storage in agricultural production can be explained in the following points:

1. Safety of production

The storage protects the crops from the spoilage. Also the damage from the pests or diseases. For example storing wheat or rice in a suitable warehouse or cylinder.

2. Market access and better value

Crops can be sold at appropriate time. Instead of immediate sale. It fetches the better price. The stocking allows farmers to benefit from the market fluctuations.

3. Availability of food throughout the year

Storage keeps the crop available. Even in days of food shortage. It is important for food security. Also for the economy of the country.

4. Increase in crop volume

Many crops are spoiled without safe storage, but with proper storage, losses are reduced.

5. Protection of Investments

The labor and capital of the farmer is saved as the risk of crop loss is reduced.

The storing of a wheat in a solid warehouse or silo. It can protect it from pests and moisture. It can be sold at a higher price in the market.
