Not Iron red dust of the Namib upon the ground it was, but breathing. Life was a dance between the blazing sun and the tree bones in the Huab River to a desert adapted giraffe, Kael, but at a very slow pace. The mosaic skin of burnt umber and bone-white, which Kael possessed, as compared to that of his cousins in the rich savannas, was the skin of a survivor, founded upon a few precarious things--the morning fog and stubbornness.

It was the apogee of the dry season. The atmosphere was warm and glittering and turned the horizon into a smouldering falsehood. Kael stood motionless, and his heart was, a tremendous powerhouse, working up the blood through his six-foot neck, under the tremendous strain of the gravitation. He was a prehistoric image to the eyes of an observer. Each moment was a summation of energy to Kael.

He was after the Salvadora bushes and not grass. The moisture which existed in their juicy leaves was the secret of his survival. It was a sort of dance of his, a racking on one side, both legs together, a dancing ship on a wave of sand.

Suddenly, the wind shifted. It was not the smell of rain, but of the sharp electric ozone of a mountain storm somewhere above. Kael paused and his long eyelashed, dark eyes moved over the shiny distance. He saw the world, It was not merely the touching of it with the feeling of his tender squares. The hills were weeping and the dry riverbed was shortly to be watered.

A rumbling sound followed a few hours afterwards before the water. Froth brown, and loaded with wrenched acacia branches and stale silt swept through the canyon. Kael didn't rush. He had waited till the commotion had had smooth sailing. His fore legs bony and flat in a wide and threatening V, he stooped his head--a bold king robbing his realm of his swallow.

Every one is not in a hurry in desert; desert life is an art of patience. Kael was drinking, and his form was traced on a violet sunset, breathing link of desert and the infinite sky, stricken by drought.

Wow! Indeed, this writing is like a picture story, in which the patience, intelligence and fragility of the desert life of the keel giraffe are evident. Each sentence describes the harshness of the natural scenery and dry weather, and Keel's behavior is an example of how important patience and wisdom are in desert life. Reading this suggests that we too can learn from nature's phenomena like this giraffe—patience, prudence, and adapting our strategies to the environment. Indeed the writing brings out both the harshness of the desert and the beauty of life.
