Explain in detail the term storage
Storage in agriculture is about keeping crops and livestock products safe after they are harvested.
You need to put the crops and livestock products in a place so the crops and livestock products stay good for a time.
The storage in agriculture helps keep the crops and livestock products from getting damaged by things like insects and mold and bad weather.
If you do the storage, in agriculture correctly you can keep the crops and livestock products in condition.
There are ways to store agricultural products. Some people use things like barns, bags and underground storage. These methods are common in farms in developing countries. Other people use advanced methods, like special buildings for grains cold rooms for fruits and vegetables and special bags that keep air out. These methods help keep products fresh for a time. For example grains can be stored for months or years in buildings with good air and no bugs.
What is the importance of storage in Agriculture?
Storage is very important in agriculture. First it helps make sure everyone has food to eat. Many crops are only available at times of the year. If we do not store them properly we will have much food when they are harvested and not enough when they are not. This happens in Nigeria and other parts of Africa where up to half of the fruits and vegetables are lost because they are not stored properly.
Second storage helps keep food prices stable. When farmers can store their products they can sell them when they want to which means prices do not go up and down all the time. This helps farmers earn an income.
Third storage reduces waste. About one-third of the food that is produced is. Wasted, often because it is not stored properly. If we store food properly we can save water, land and labor.
Fourth storage helps add value to products. When we store materials we can use them to make other products, like flour, juice and animal feed. This helps the economy. Creates jobs.
Fifth storage helps keep people healthy. When we store food properly it keeps its nutrients and vitamins.
In short storage is a part of farming.
If we spend money on storage we can grow food reduce poverty and help the environment.
This is especially important in places like Nigeria where many farmers have farms.
Climate change is making it more important to have storage systems so we can be ready for any challenges that come our way, with food storage and that helps farmers and storage.
