The no gap farming strategy
Once harvest time comes around for the mature maize, the next set of crops is already established, beginning to grow and already ready to be harvested and sold fresh. If we make an assumption of a maize farm that is let's just say about two months old. New crops are prepared to be grown directly between the maize rows before the current harvest is ready to be harvested.
Most modern maize farming is seen as a game of patience, but for the agribusiness specialists it is about clever timing and streamlining and most importantly, profit.
Modern maize farming continues to reduce the risks of farming business by using a method of overlap crop cycles which will end up minimizing any downtime. It's good and modern field utilization which manages crop systems and yields strategically. These cycles keep the soil, crops and land in constant useful production to sustain the most harvests.
For the farmer that wants to take it to a whole different level and further maximize yields, during the time the overlapping cycles are happening, farmers can do small tests or experiments on their farms. A good one is trying out different vegetables or legumes in one part of the field and seeing how they grow in relation to the maize. Some may grow better than others, but even small experiments will give farmers with valuable data for their future planting. This will help them learn how various crops and legumes affect the soil and water. Little by little, a farmer can learn to do the best planting for each season.
