For this write I want to briefly talk about intercropping.

Intercropping is a practice that farmers practice a lot. In a layman's understanding, intercropping is a practice where farmers plant two or more different crops on the same piece of land for them to grow together.

The majority of farmers apply this practice to make better use of soil nutrients, space, and sunlight. A good example is when a farmer plants maize together with beans. The maize (corn) grows tall and provides support, while the beans grow and help to improve the fertility of the soil.

Intercropping has its advantages, one of which is the reduction of pests and diseases because planting different crops makes it harder for pests to spread fast. Also, intercropping helps farmers harvest more from the same piece of land, which increases productivity and income.

In Nigeria and other parts of Africa, intercropping is very common among small-scale farmers because, they see it as a way of improving skills health, and minimising the risk of total crop failure if one crop does not do well.
