A few bugs in your cabbage are not harmful

There's an actual myth and after talking to my mom in the kitchen last night, she explained it to me. Cabbage freaks me out like no other veggie does. I saw a little worm just looking like it was chilling in the leaves of the cabbage at the grocery store yesterday. You could tell it was bad and everyone that came noticed it but for some reason they still leave it there.

The guy selling the stuff should have felt pretty embarrassed but he didn't because he understood what my mom also understood. All of this freaking out over leaves that's going to be cooked anyway.

It will be cooked, it will be boiled it will be fried 100% and those kinds of temperatures will kill anything. I still soak my cabbage in salt water for ten minutes before I cook it, but you don’t have to kill a bug in the cabbage to be able to eat it.

What I'm really concerned about is the fact that people clearly don't think about where the cabbage comes from. Cabbage with a bug in it means the stuff comes from the dirt. It means it comes from the outside and it also means it wasn’t doused in pesticides before it was harvested. That's the way it used to be.

Don't get me wrong though, if you ever freaked out, you have the right to be. It's normal that you're concerned about what you're putting into your mouth. What you have to do though is educate yourself on these things. Washing and cooking it does the job so there's no need to be worried.
