Apps that can tell when fruit is ready
Farming is definitely changing really quickly these days, actually changing way more than before.
Farmers can now open up an app on their phone, hold it up to a mango or tomato, and see if it’s ready to pick. The app can tell them if the fruit is the right colour, if the skin looks good and all that. Basically, it helps the farmer to know when exactly they can pick the fruit to make sure they don’t lose any.
I saw some YouTube videos of this and it's very impressive.

This is a good thing because food waste is a big problem. At least I'm guessing food waste from farms is one of the main issues, then food waste from grocery stores is the other issue.
It’s really cool how fast this technology has come about, just a few years ago, all farmers were relying on experience alone, now there’s software that’s doing some of the heavy lifting. Some farmers have complete faith in the software and some still trust their own judgement more. You can’t really blame them for that.
The software and apps are getting better at spotting ripeness than what most of us can see overlooking a produce table. Minute changes in ripeness that could determine whether a crop will be harvested profitably or spoiled. I still think it’s a little strange that you would need a phone app to tell you what your fruit farm produce is ripe, it looks like there is no longer a way to know difference now. By using the app, you just now have more steps to take.
If the app is able to eliminate food being wasted before reaching a consumer, I would say it is worth it to change the way we’ve farmed all these years. Farming is always changing, but I believe never this fast.

🎉 Congratulations!
