Pick and Write [Agricultural Word]👉#10

I'm happy to see that agronomy was part of the pick and write agriculture word for this week because there's something about it I had planned to talk about in the future. I might as well use this as an opportunity to share.

Agriculture has changed a lot over the years. When I was growing up, if you planted seed even in the dry season, you could expect to get rain until harvest time. Now we just don't know when the rains will come, we are uncertain of what we should be doing to have a good crop this year. If you're a farmer you could waste a lot of time looking at the weather reports trying to figure out what kind of maize variety is going to die when the temperature gets too high.

Some of the older crops cannot stand the heat today. I followed an agro science news and apparently, scientists are working on getting some new types of maize but even when they do get the farmers new varieties, they may not grow here because of our soil conditions.

For some farmers the conditions is that if the rain does not come by a particular deadline, they're going to lose everything they have invested in their crop.

I spoke to an agronomist concerning an issue myself and my uncle had but that was a long time ago. He gave a good advice that we needed organic matter for the clay. It made sense since we know they clay will be too hard when there's little rain. Buying bags of chicken manure or compost will be very expensive. I looked at the price last week and just decided to forget about it for now. Tillage will also be expensive, but at least with tractor in and out quickly.

So if a farmer decides to put all this money into the dirt, will the rain fall well this year at all? Some people talk like there is money growing on the neem trees behind their farm and might read this blog and maybe think, if you're poor then don't do farming. I would not want this to be a rant anyways.
