So how healthy are beans really?

You probably already know that beans are a good source of nutrition, just not the most well known. I usually compare this food group to that best friend in your life that shows up when you need a friend, but never brags about it.

So just how good are beans for you? I would say pretty damn good, it's my go to when I don't know what to eat that day.

For one thing, beans are an excellent source of fiber. Most people think they get enough fiber, but they don't. Also, fiber doesn't just help you go, if you know what I mean, but it helps you regulate your blood sugar so you don't go through a daily spike and crash cycle. And fiber also provides food for the bacteria in your digestive system, and those bacteria help with everything from digestion to how you feel.

Then we have protein, bean protein, plant based protein, but it is an excellent source of nutrients and quite filling. When I was trying to eat healthier on a small budget, beans made it for easy for me. They were inexpensive so I was able to sustain myself financial for a while before I got back on my feet.

I was able to provide healthy meals without breaking the bank and without sacrificing taste.

Beans also contain all the little vitamins and minerals like folate, potassium, iron that your body needs to function ok.

Without going into a long lecture on these vitamins or minerals, let me put it this way, these nutrients work behind the scenes to keep your body functioning as a somewhat responsible adult.

Another positive thing about beans is that they take longer to digest than most other foods, and that's going to help to keep you feeling full for a longer time. And you know that less frequent snack raids means eating healthier.

So are beans perfect? No food is. Some people are just not used to eating beans and if they suddenly start eating large amounts or too much of beans, after years of zero bean consumption, they will usually have symptoms like gas and bloating, I had that two days ago. But if you gradually incorporates beans into your diet, you are less likely to experience such symptoms.

Infact I'm going to get some beans for lunch today. Thanks for reading guys, hope this was helpful.

Since childhood, I have known beans to be that best protein food anyone could eat. I never ate beans until I was grown but I enjoy all species of beans. Thank you for sharing your idea!

Their fiber and protein profile really helps keep you full longer and stabilize blood sugar too. I like how you also stress the economic value of nuts: Good food should be available for everyone. You describe very realistically and helpfully what these digestive consequences felt like when you began eating them. A simple yet educational piece. Thank you for prompting us how healthy and integral nuts are to our lives.

I couldn't have said it any better than how you put it, good food certainly should be available for everyone
