The amount of water needed to grow rice

in Steem-Agro4 days ago

Rice requires more water than most crops do. It takes about 1,432 litres of water to produce just one kg of rice. Normally the rice plant remains in its flooded field for about a week before harvesting time. Much of the water used to grow rice is stored in the bunded fields surrounding the rice fields themselves.

I have a small bag of rice on the shelf in my kitchen. I bought that one last week. If we're talking realistically, the quantity of water required to grow this small bag of rice is quite a lot, over a thousand litres.

Some people might see or think that rice production is simple but the price of irrigation is expensive. Rice paddies mostly remain submerged for several months and using water is necessary or even critical to the success of the rice plant.

I really don't like the fact that so much water is required to produce each bowl of rice. The rice fields must be kept flooded to produce well, if there is not enough water or if the water drains quickly, there will not be a sufficient rice harvest. And in the early parts of the years,I can't say this for other countries but in Ghana, the price of rice has again increased in the marketplace and agriculture uses up a lot resources.
