Create a painting inspired by the emotion “Jealousy”. Make sure your piece is 200 words.

Jealousy, an emotion so intense it can cloud judgment and transform the mind into a dark artist, creating fictional scenarios with almost poetic creativity. It's like oppressive hands dragging you to a dark place where reality is impossible to see, whispering words that feed that knot in your stomach and make you fear losing what you consider yours.

Those suffocating hands, which fill the body with anxiety and turn every second into a possibility of being replaced, are nothing more than the manifestation of inner demons. Demons that reveal the insecurities, the control, the fear, and the distrust that lie hidden in the deepest corners of the mind, but which surface at the slightest hint of suspicion.

It begins as a small spark, something that may seem insignificant, like a fleeting glance or a faint smile, but then it transforms into a poison that fills every corner of your body and dissolves that fragile thread of trust. At that moment, no reason or excuse can change that look of anguish or calm your heart. Once doubt is sown, obsession and possessiveness shatter reality. No logic prevails, no promise offers solace, only the desire to seize control and silence inner voices.

Present jealousy from an unusual or unexpected angle.

My drawing depicts the precise moment jealousy begins. It doesn't show the external world, but rather how this person's reality starts to distort. In the drawing, I tried to show how the woman's expression transforms into one of anguish and vulnerability as she witnesses a scene that alarms her, and how those hands (representing her insecurities) manifest themselves to confirm her suspicions.

The hands are shown as a solid extension of herself, because she has allowed herself to be consumed by jealousy to such an extent that it now has a strong presence in her life and, therefore, controls her. The hands don't come from a single direction, but from several, to reflect that feeling of suffocation that fills the entire body when experiencing jealousy. Furthermore, one hand tries to cover her eyes so that she loses clarity, reason, and logic.

What triggers this emotion in your piece?

In my drawing, jealousy is triggered by the woman's insecurities, stemming from the belief that she is not enough for the other person and from emotional dependence. As soon as she feels the other person drifting away or experiences a sense of abandonment, jealousy begins, because she believes her very existence depends on him.

Does your interpretation show jealousy as destructive, protective, or transformative?

It represents destructive jealousy because the hands control the woman's judgment, preventing her from seeing reality. She doesn't try to push them away; instead, she takes refuge in them and adopts the role of victim instead of trusting her partner or seeking solid evidence. In the drawing, I try to show the jealousy that arises from a relationship of emotional dependency, which is why her face shows an expression of vulnerability rather than anger.

For this, I was inspired by a couple I met a few years ago at university, where the young woman was jealous of her boyfriend over trivial things and, moreover, played the victim when he complained. This greatly harmed the young man's life.

Saludos!
