Rice plantation is like that

Even looking at these pictures hurts my back because this appears to be back breaking labor. I commend those who grow the rice. Beautiful rice fields are what I remember seeing. It can't get any better, so much hard work, rewarding work and stunning scenery.

Living a more physically demanding life is more satisfying than my current easy office job. This first year of farming I've made a good number of mistakes and false starts because I'm a newbie to the whole thing. The amount of labor and machinery involved in rice farming never ceases to surprise me. Usually all I have to do is move 30kg bags of rice to and from the rice polishing machine and the truck. Even though I work close to some of the best farmers in our area it still requires a lot of work. The only difficult part of growing rice is when you first plant it after that all you really need to do is manage the water flow.

I've seen poor little old ladies who are permanently stooped from a lifetime of planting by hand. My girlfriend's grandparents planted by hand for years. Fieldwork will be very simple because of the recent dry conditions but early growth will not be supported. Its very simple to store rice. Switching to staple rice from feed or processed foods is not too difficult as well. Without rolling or weeding, long grain rice is likely the most underappreciated crop.

Self mulching, planting and harvesting are the only passes you ever need to make if you use a direct drill that fertilizes. I like rice because as long as the field water level is maintained you can keep 50% of the fertilizer and never worry about weeds. The payout is reasonable and the turnaround time is also not too bad.

You might have questions like in terms of profit is rice great? Should you plant a large or small field? Is it like root crops where you'll hate yourself when it's time to harvest? I would simply say, it's good profit, plant based on your budget and you won't hate yourself if you do it right.

Long grain can be planted and harvested with simple tools. So this is how the rice planter operates. It's not necessary to plant rice in a muddy soft paddy. The only reason for doing that is that rice can endure. It's a simple method of keeping pests and weeds at bay. You don't know how incredible this machine is until you've seen it in action. And never forget to give your rice a little time to grow.
