Roasted cocoyam over fries any day
I have a preference for roasted cocoyam over fried yam, and one of those reasons has to do with the oil used to fry yam, it causes me so much discomfort in my tummy every time after I've eaten it.
Another important thing affecting my choice is how the lady who makes it prepares the cocoyam by putting it in the hot ash and it becomes smaller and it make it look burned in colour. When I buy these small pieces, they feel very hot on the inside, and they also feel quite dry because of the absence of the oil which to me is good because of what I told you earlier. The texture of the roasted cocoyam is so nice because there is no greasy residue, sometimes I add groundnut to it and it’s a good enough meal since I don't feel overly full afterward. Cooked cocoyam is really satisfying too.
Even while passing the chop bar on a busy evening, the fried yam looks oily than when roasted. I am almost disgusted just by looking at the oily fried yam. There was a time I bought fried yam close to Circle a busy place in Accra, and all the oil from the yam made my fingers slippery, and the grease also soaked through my wrapper.
I couldn't stand the way my lips felt, but I was in a hurry so I thought I would just buy it and see if I'll be ok eating it, that was a big mistake. I also noticed the fried yam makes me very thirsty so I always have to go look for water after I eat them. I
Roasted cocoyam is cheaper to buy than fried yam in a lot of places in Accra. What's your favorite between fried yam and roasted cocoyam.
