Berries or veggies

Round and red.
Succulent and tempting enough I'd always want to sink my teeth in them for a bite when fresh.

Cherry tomatoes are beautiful and unique in their own way.
For years while growing up, if anyone would ask me, I would say they are vegetables.
Of course it is definitely one of the vegetable ingredients one would use in preparing stew and sauce over here.
It is blended with other vegetables and spices (onions, ball peppers, chilli pepper) to make that.
Often in vegetable salads, you would find it sliced or diced with others (cabbage, cauliflower etc). So definitely, it was categorized as a vegetable (to me).

Upon research during later years, I could not easily accept the fact that tomatoes had technically been a fruit all along.
I could not fathom the fact that it was a food you could hold onto, eating while taking a stroll as you would do with an apple.
But sitting back to analyze the species; it would definitely pass a fruit given it fleshy and succulent skin. Upon having a bite, cherry tomatoes have a sweet taste to it. Its possession of numerous seeds in its moisturized insides makes it fall into the class of berries.
Its culinary use had scientifically not been used to categorize it. Hardly would any fruit be used in the kitchen as an ingredient; except if blended for a juice (the likes of orange, apples, strawberries etc).

The tomatoes are sweet but low in calories making it a healthy food. Its richness in vitamins A and C aids in providing the body with antioxidants and prevents aging.

In cultivation, they are often grown in warm weather within soils that are well moisturized. These requirements often make them prone to fungal attack but what would a fungicide not get rid of?

Enjoy tomatoes fresh, in sauces or your salads!
