Animal Activities #51: beware of dogs

When we think about the animals who we have around us, there are some who we grow up with and also we have some stories about them. I also have one story and will always will remember like it happened yesterday.
That time I was about 6 years old and we lived in a small house with own little garden, that is why our parents had a dog to make sure that if there is anything dangerous or any thieves then we had our guard German Shepherd dog. Do you know that dogs can feel and people say even smell if someone has a fear of them? I remember that our dog liked very much our father, maybe because he was confident and strong and never had any hesitation when he was doing anything with it. As to me, maybe because I was not very tall and the dog was till middle of my body and the head almost at my chest level I understandably had respect and a bit of fear of the dog.
One day when we were at home and were playing with my friends we noticed some barking in garden, we thought that there were some people around and did not pay attention. One moment my friend who looked through the window said that there is a dog running outside of the fence. Initially I thought that it was someone else’s dog because our was on chain but when I looked through the window I noticed that it was our dog. I was scared because parents were not at home and that means it was our task to get he dog back into our yard.
I decided to try like my father, went out and called our dog, it came to me very happily, then I took the dog collar which was still closed but I think it was slightly loose that is why he managed to get out of it. I started to pull over the nose of my dog and this time my dog became angry and showed me its teeth, his eyes were furious. I think this moment I made a mistake and showed that I am scared, the dog then got it and managed to remove the band from his head and bitten me on my leg. Luckily it was not deep and when I started to cry it run away.
Of course, later on my parents arrived and they got dog back on chain. Since then I know that the dogs are not toys and we have to be aware that they are animals and know exactly who is their boss and if a person is scared or not.
