What is Crop Rotation?

 

Crop rotation this is a word combination that probably many of us who do not have anything to do with planting or farming are familiar with. For many of us we have our garden mostly for lawn, some flowers and trees for having shadow and enjoy time under the trees.

There are some people who love gardening and also who like to grow their own food and those ones usually learn about the way how to treat our land and how to make it productive.

The land is usually from nature rich of nutrients but we should know that when we plant something we can not do plant the same stuff year after year because the soil will the good stuff.

That is why it is wise to plant different crops every year: if you plant something like potato family, then next year it should be something from the family of legumes: peas and beans, the next year it should be Brassicas or cabbage and cauliflower, following that it will be plants with roots and alliums such as onion and carrots.

 

Benefits and demerits of crop rotation?

 

There are always benefits and demerits of anything, let’s look at crop rotation:

Benefits:

• different crops require different type of electrolytes and trace elements
• some crops require more and some less water, depending on the year and the heat it will be different type of crop grow better in certain year
• some of the insects or pest like certain type of soil

Demerits:

• for planting different type of crops every year, the farmer should have different machinery and seeds

• formers will need certain knowledge of different crops and how to planting

• financially it will be more expensive to get every year different crops

• for selling farmer will need different buyer and need different marketing

Still it remains very effective and good for both soil, people and nature.
