Pick and Write [Agricultural Word] #04: Harvest

When we think about the word harvest I think majority of us imagine big machinery on big fields. I love to see endless fields of wheat and that is the most important to be able to have fresh bread from flour. What could be the most appetising than the smell of freshly baked bread. When we were young in school we also had visited the farms and like any children were curious seeing what is done and how. Also it was cool to see how the Windmills were producing flour from fresh wheat. I think it is important for children to know how everything is produced and what we need to know about the food that we plant ourselves.
Also when I was visiting my grandparents we always had a lot of work in Spring, my grandfather was planting potato plants and I remember in Autumn I was very excited to see how many potatoes will be harvested from one plant and how big they will be. For children we ate with great appetite our own potatoes my favourite dish was fried potatoes with some onion and we also had some onions in our garden that my grandmother planted. I love both onion bulb and but also on windowsill some fresh green onions just for salads.
Therefore it was very popular when we were visiting my grandparents they made fried potatoes with onion on a pan, it was then served with tomato and cucumber cut into small slices making salad with a bit of salt. My grandmother told that it is something that in old time it was very simple and popular food.
Another thing that also can fit into harvesting is collecting apples in autumn, as children we loved to climb on trees and throw them down to our grandparents. Later on my grandmother made some jams.
I believe everyone who lives on land can harvest the products of their work in garden or fields.
