Like every district in Bangladesh, Comilla also has its own history, culture and natural beauty. Built on the slopes of the Lalmai hills, the tradition of this district is multifaceted. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of Comilla city, there is a wonderful haven of peace – Rup Sagar Dighi. It is not just a water body, but a unique combination of history, nature and tourism. When you visit Rup Sagar Dighi, you will not only get the beauty of the water, but also get a spiritual connection with history.

Let's see how Rup Sagar has become a part of the lives of the people of Comilla and what experiences await a travel enthusiast here. Rup Sagar Dighi is located to the west of Kandirpar in Comilla city. It is believed that during the Mughal period, local landlords or kings dug this huge dighi to meet the shortage of water and for the welfare of the common people.

It is said that a king had the dighi dug to perpetuate the memory of his beloved wife and it was named Rup Sagar after his wife. Although there is no exact historical document, there is a legend in local folklore. Rup Sagar is also an excellent example of the practice of building civilization around water bodies during the Mughal architecture and the landlord period of Bengal.

The area of ​​Rup Sagar Dighi is about 37 acres. When viewed from a distance, it seems like a small sea is spreading in the heart of the city. It is surrounded by green trees. Whether it is winter or monsoon, the view of the Dighi will fascinate you. In summer, when the sunlight falls on the water, it creates a golden shimmer. In monsoon, the waves of water and the surrounding greenery create a wonderful appearance. And in winter, thousands of guest birds arrive, which increases the beauty of the Dighi many times over.

Sitting on the banks of Rup Sagar in the evening and watching the sunset undoubtedly brings a different kind of peace to the traveler. Currently, Rup Sagar is under the Comilla City Corporation. The surrounding banks, walkways, seating areas, and lighting have been installed. As a result, it has now become not just a historical lake, but a beautiful park for people's entertainment.

Many people come here with their families. In the evening, the chatter of local youth, the strolling of the elderly, and the games of children - all of this makes Roop Sagar come alive every day. When you travel to Roop Sagar, the first thing you will see is the vast body of water and the green trees growing around the banks. The surrounding environment is different from the hustle and bustle of the city, very calm and peaceful.

You can walk along the walkways built around the lake. Walking here in the afternoon or morning fills your mind with freshness. Besides, the place is also wonderful for sitting and chatting with friends or family. For those who love to take pictures, Roop Sagar is a great place for them. Some time ago, there was a boat trip here, although it is not currently in regular operation. However, boat trips are occasionally available with special arrangements or permission from the local administration.
