Abraham goes to school
Genesis 12:10-20
Genesis 13:1-4
Having answered the call of God, Abraham becomes a students of God.
It was time for him to learn Christ(matt. 11:29). He entered into God's discipleship. He lost his independence.
Christ says 'Take my yoke upon you and learn of me... ' A man with Christ's yoke is no longer on his own.
That is the implication of Christian discipleship. There are many who do not want to lose their independence.
The famine that came Abraham's way was divinely arranged to teach him how to handle famine. No matter what happens remember that those problems comes to you to teach you how to handle such problem. There is a course in God's school known as famine.
How do you handle the adversities that must surely come? You must not be desperate like the world. It is a time to look unto God - your sources of supply. Human beings love doing many things to get out of a tight corner.
Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your request be made known to God (Phil 4:6). Friend, no matter how you see prosperity, famine must come as a school.
