The believers are now in struggle and conflict
"Consider him who suffered such a contradiction of sinners against himself, so that your spirit will not grow weary until you faint"
The words "patience" (in verse 1) and "suffered" (or "endured", according to another version, in verse 2) come from the same root. Difficulties generally produce patience and resistance.
These Hebrew believers had left a religion that had a very elaborate ritual and many rites and a great temple. Although Herod's temple was not finished, even when it was destroyed in AD 70. It was a very beautiful architectural work, which inspired admiration and reverence. There took place a great ritual, at first it had been a religion given by God, but at the time that this epistle to the Hebrews was written, this religion had become corrupted, to prostitute itself. However, as far as religion itself was concerned, it was a possession of that people. But then, those believers had left the practice of that religion, and they no longer fulfilled all that ritual of the temple. They had come to consider the Lord Jesus Christ, and He was everything to them. He was the temple. He was the ritual. He was Christianity. He was everything. There was a simplicity in Christ, and the writer then asked them to focus on Him.
They had to know what Jesus Christ endured when He was here on earth, and how He learned patience. At the beginning of this epistle, in the section that exposed His humanity, we were told that He learned many things here, even though He was God. In His earthly body He learned something that God had to experience, and that was to take on our humanity and suffer for us. Christ endured that experience and learned patience.
"so that your spirit does not tire until fainting".
We must say with all sincerity, that unless you remain close to the Word of God, which will keep you close to the person of Christ, where the Holy Spirit can take the things of Christ and turn them into a reality for you, you will to tire of the Christian life, and it will discourage you. This is the reason why today we see discouraged Christians everywhere. Dear listener, if you come into contact with the Word of God and approach Jesus Christ, you will feel stimulated. You will not feel tired of this life here on earth. It is that we are living in the best days that have ever existed.
