[Vlog] Steemfest 3 review - The ‘Skin in the Game’ is real
I really didn’t know what to expect from Steemfest this year. Cryptocurrencies have been in a bear market this year and people could have been either disillusioned by the price drop or galvanised into the kind of action that would make Steem stronger.
That's a really great way of looking at it! Matt @starkerz mentioned in a round table that Steem is a mecanism to reward voluntary action. That voluntary action - or better: the level of action - can perfectly demonstrated by putting your skin in the game, showing presence and telling people:
I also completely second what you said about galvanizing people through their apps and sub-communities. People start to be enthusiastic about their specific fields of interest built on Steem - and I think that this is brilliant in terms of fostering loyalty. It's hard to be attached to something abstract like a blockchain, but it's very easy to be attached to an application or a tribe - cause this is how we've built up communities ever since in real life.
I told you before, but I'm going to repeat it again here: it was a huge pleasure meeting you again in person! You're such a positive and inspring person, I always very much enjoy meeting up with you.
We'll keep in touch! Big hugs :-)
The feelings are mutual. It's always good catching up and finding out what you're thinking and doing. I always leave our conversations in awe of how much you give back and knowing I could/ should do more.
In that way you make me that bit better.
Hugs back at ya! :)
Oh nanzooo.... I just had a look at my wallet. Now you really made me shed a tear, thank you so much!!! I don't know what else to say, that's an amazing gesture and I will assure you that the donation is in good hands. We'll be able to make some kids very very happy with it :-)
Thanks for having such a big heart and for being such an amazing human being! Big hugs back again and enjoy your day
Awesome review Tony... or is it Toby? :P Great to hear how SF3 has been for people who've been to all 3 Steemfests, for a first timer like me, it's nice to see that wherever the platform is going, the real users and communities are still standing strong.
I don't think I need to ask if you'll be planning to go to SF4! Thank you for the fun conversations and for being such a massive support for so many on the platform, including our new friend ;)
Check out the short video I did with him! https://steemit.com/steemfest/@redrica/2jgm08lq
See you again soon!!
Lol... you're still crazy! It was great catching up.
No doubt we'll meet before SF4... what, do you have like 50 London meet-ups planned before then?
Haha 50 at least! I LOVE seeing my Steemit family, what can I say :P

A very succinct summary and nice to get some historical perspective too!
I'm 1000% (or some massive %) more into steem having attended and actually quite up for more UK meet ups now. Given that I've got something of a social phobia that's testimony to just how nice everyone at the fest was.
The future certainly looks bright and I've been encouraged to invest more time and maybe even more dollar into the platform, although I need to review the later! (Food's still gotta come first).
I was actually most impressed by @sndbox's presentation - had no idea how involved they were with linking the local community with steem.
What I was most blown away by however was the freakish degree of intelligence on display, and most of that without any arrogance.
In case you missed it check out Bernie's latest rant about ned's Destiny announcement. The post is just snarky but the comments are interesting.
Anyways, great meeting you, maybe catch you @ a UK meet up in 2019, when you've earned yr next pass.
Karl.

It was great meeting you too Karl. Steemfest definitely has that impact on people, it's infectious. @roelandp deserves a lot of credit for the work he and his team does putting this on. It cannot be understated how important events like this are for a social network like Steem.
I missed @sndbox presentation however I went to their exhibition in Brooklyn over the summer and met with Kirk and Mike. They are a fantastic example of Steem Outreach and what is possible on the platform.
Yes, let's stay in touch and catch up at future UK/ London meet-up.
Hey there. First of all I wanna say, its a shame I haven't really had the chance to talk to you a lot at this steemfest (except of the poker game) because @mammasitta told me a lot about you and I was looking forward to meet you. I guess that just happens if you meet 300 people at once, you cant catch up with everybody ;) - It is interesting to hear your point of you as an attendee of all 3 steemfests, I didn`t know this one was so different than from others, but its cool to see that it is apparently
growing and moving forward,.. even though we seem to be a bit more independent from the head of the group. I was expecting a bit more from the opening talk too.. but well, the rest was pretty awesome. I love the spirit; that everybody has an Idea and try to see how they can work together instead of competing. There is a great team spirit at this community! - For me personal as it was not a "business trip" it was just nice to see some of the faces I met on my travels again, and got to know people in person that I had contact with before. I loved that we had a lot of fun activities during the week. And of course the App from @arcange helped us "little ones" to get to know more people easily. I am looking forward to the poker game next year. Steem on! Liz
Hey - we may not have spoke much however you made an indelible impression on me... knocking me out of the poker tournament with a 3,4 suited!!
I'm convinced you were hustling all of us, with @gtg perched on your shoulder clutching his 'Poker for Dummies' book!! But it's all good. :)
Hopefully we'll get a chance to talk properly at SF4!
I was chip leader so I could take the risk and yes the magic was on my side that night ;) Yes, I hope we do by then! - I see you post a lot about sports too! Im gonna be stalking your account a bit, cause I am really into sports myself ;) Next time I better bring the whole book (poker for dummies) and read it by then :D
It was fun to connect with you all - I enjoy your insightful narratives and look forward to checking out your project soon. :)
After a day of flying and train rides.. it's time for me to dream of steem! zzzzz
Good connecting with you too. I've just woken up from the land of dream myself LOL.
Glad you got back safely.
Glad to meet you as well and thank you for disturbing my quiet moments now and then :)

Yes, I can be a pest sometimes :)
Hope you enjoyed Steemfest this year.
Totally agree that making it to the Festival as 'just' a content creator has potential to massively increase your visibility.
Roeland and the team put in a great effort, respect to those guys.
Fair point on the Steemit team lacking when you compare to last year, Dave (birdinc) did a great job though hanging out with us until sunrise for some spooky photos one morning. @llfarms and @tarazkp will likely have plenty of these photos to share.
Cheers!
I guess the thinking was that Dave and Andrew could hold down the fort as it falls within the remit of their 'roles'. I get the approach, however see it as an opportunity missed.
I don't think we got a chance to talk properly this Steemfest. Hopefully next time.
Yeah I tend to agree, 2 guys shared between 300+ was a big ask for them. You would hope the rest of the team are hard at work keeping up with their 'promise' to have SMT ready by next March/April.
This Steemfest I managed to compliment you on looking in good shape, but of course this was then compared to last years event and you said something like 'why didn't you tell me then', haha :)
All good, next time!
Great to meet you again. I didn't hear too many people worrying about the Steem price. It will come when we have built things that give it value. The dapp developers are doing cool stuff.
Always a pleasure. I agree the financial value will come however at the moment the human connections are priceless.
Always a pleasure meeting you. Did I thank you for your never ending support?! I appreciate your loyalty so so much! 🌺
You are most welcome! It is always great catching up with you. You're looking so vibrant, whatever you're doing keep doing it. :)
I conquered a “beast” and I do appreciate life more than ever because I know that i am ok since June 13th! 🙌 couldn’t stop dancing since then and not much on the platform.
Life is precious Tony and I embrace every moment and second of it!
NOW not Tomorrow....

Interesting insight, thanks for sharing. Steem monsters seems to be a huge deal amongst some users, good for the platform as a whole.
