Introducing new Steemhunt User Score - now your HUNT Token Balance Matters

Today, we are delighted to announce our new user score system. Now your user score will increase and gain a larger voting weight if you have a higher stake in HUNT tokens and are more active than others. This is based on a relative percentile scale.

Our Journey to Invent ABV system on Steem Blockchain

Steemhunt has tried to create our own user reputation and voting system by adapting an account-based voting system. You can see our full journey in these two previous announcements:

The core philosophy behind our journey is to find the most optimised user reputation scale to represent the individual user’s valuable contribution.

The problem with Steemit’s stake-weighted voting system is that it’s 100% based on the amount of Steem Power a user holds, rather than focusing on the daily activities that benefit the community. We believe that the user score metrics for community platforms like Steemhunt should mirror both sides - the user’s stake in tokens and daily contributions.

New User Score - now your HUNT Token Balance Matters

1. Goal of New Metrics

There are three main objectives for our new user score metrics:

  1. Represent the user’s daily dedication within the community.
  2. Motivate users to gain a higher stake.
  3. Minimise the disparity between highly influential and normal users in a dynamic way.

Goal no.3 is especially important for us because we strongly believe that having many average users who are motivated to increase their influential power creates a strong foundation which leads to a powerful community.

2. Steemhunt User Score Metrics

Steemhunt user score is a measurable index that demonstrates how a hunter is contributing to the value of Steemhunt platform. The user score is calculated by multiplying the HUNT power score by the contribution score, and both scores are calculated by relative percentile point.

User Score = (1) HUNT Power Score X (2) Contribution Score

(1) HUNT Power Score (HPS)
HPS indicates how much of a stake in the HUNT token you have compared to other users at this moment. Your HPS may increase when you are staking more HUNT power compared others.

(2) Contribution Score (CS)
CS shows your activity-wide contributions in the community compared to other users. It calculates the user’s activities over the last 30 days based on 4 subcategories - credibility (trustworthiness of the account), activity (how active in Steemhunt), curation (upvoting in an adding-value way), and hunter (valuable hunts/comments the user has posted).

Since both scores are determined based on the performance of other users, your user score may vary everyday. In other words, your user score may be decreased when other users achieve a higher performance than you, even if you have maintained the same amount of HUNT power and contribution activities. The max score is 10.

3. No Level, just Single User Score System

Previously, we had a hunter level system that was determined by each user’s score, but this system was too complicated. For example, the user’s voting weight was determined by his/her user score, but the airdrop rewards and @steemhunt’s upvotes were determined by the hunter level.

Now every system is followed by the one single metric - the user score. There is no hunter level. His/her voting weight, amount of upvotes by @steemhunt, and airdrop rewards will be decided by the user score.

4. Upvotes by Steemhunt

Upvoting by @steemhunt will be the same as previous. To recap how we have upvoted so far, please check out this summary:

  1. We only upvote one (approved) hunting post and up to 2 comments (that are within the top 100) per day for each hunter
  2. A hunting post has 10 weight and a comment has 1 weight.
  3. Only the hunter with a user score of at least 1.0 or more will get upvotes.
  4. The voting weight will be multiplied by your user score to the basic weight (i.e. x3 applied if your user score is 3.0).
  5. Steemhunt team members (not the community role members such as moderators, influencers, and guardians) will be excluded from @steemhunt’s upvotes. Also, the user score of abusive users (i.e. Blacklisted users) will be demoted to zero.
  6. Voting comments for the community roles are the same way as before: first two comments = hunter level rewards + community role rewards / rest of them = role rewards

This new system will be applied from November 18th, 2018 (KST).

I’m getting a sense of how SMTs will work. @SteemHunt
As a newbie on SteemHunt, I am still learning about how SteemHunt works.

what a good time for this, i was already getting frustrated about the ABV, lol
nice idea

So, you have just gone full circle?? The voting is stake-based again, just stake in hunt token instead of steem? Seems pretty useless.

Just a centralized stake-based system instead.

Did you read the article??

The user score is calculated by multiplying the HUNT power score by the contribution score, and both scores are calculated by relative percentile point. User Score = (1) HUNT Power Score X (2) Contribution Score

Yes, it's not 100% based, but it is partially now.

Yes, now both sides are considered.

We believe that the user score metrics for community platforms like Steemhunt should mirror both sides - the user’s stake in tokens and daily contributions.

You are highly welcome if you can share why you think this approach is "useless."

It fails to meet your announced goal.

Steemhunt is built on top of Steemit which uses a stake-weighted voting system. The philosophy behind this system is that the highest SP holders will behave in the best way to support the value of the platform. It was intended to enhance the linkage between the quality of content and its reward. As Steemit also experiences the same issue, the stake-weighted voting system is failing because top hunting posts are occupied by upvoting from bid bots, subscription bots, curation tails and self-voting, which is irrelevant to the hunting quality.

To create the ranking board where the most valued hunting posts can have higher rankings, we decided to change our ranking system to the account-based voting system.

Introducing ABV (Account Based Voting) System
The basic idea of ABV is “One vote is one vote regardless of how much Steem Power the voter has.” This means that the hunting posts with the most upvotes will have a higher ranking. This new system has five important pillars.

from https://busy.org/@steemhunt/steemhunt-initiates-account-based-voting-ranking-system

  1. Our main back-bone is still ABV.
  2. If you think "changing" something to the original system is considered to be "failed," not sure how many current great products are considered to be "succeeded."
  3. We clearly mentioned about the goal in the post when we initially begin the ABV - To create the ranking board where the most valued hunting posts can have higher rankings -> ABV is NOT our objective. It's just a methodology to achieve our goal I addressed.

Anyway, I don't think it's necessary to re-explain the reason why we have now stake-weights adapted ABV system because they are all clearly addressed in our post.

Again, you are truly welcome if you can suggest something better system to achieve our main goal for the user score system - to represent the individual user’s valuable contribution.

Thanks.

The post doesn't explain why HPS ( i.e. a user's stake in tokens) is important in calculating User Score.

I doubt your presumption:

both scores are determined based on the performance of other users

What performance do you figure out when a user can earn tokens from delegating Steem Power or just clicking shuffle button and installing a browser extension without any other activity on the platform?

Soon token is going to be listed on some exchange and anyone can invest in it increasing their HPS. How is this component of User Score any different than SP system of Steem?

  1. We don't oppose the basic idea about STEEM's stake-weighted voting system. We think it's ideally and highly well-designed token system because more you stake in, more likely you protect the value.
  2. However, 100% stake-based system can't consider the factor of user's activitiy-wide contributions. Especially for SH, ranking should be be based on quality matters, not by someone put more money on that. This was our basic motivation to adopt ABV system.
  3. We never intended to set 100% pure ABV system anyway because it is never be possible to prevent abusers perfectly. Even with the perfectly designed oracle system (that is even just a concept stage) won't be able to prevent abusers. So our ABV system was not 100% pure ABV anyway. It has four major categories - you can check more details here.
  4. For designing no.3, of course we didn't put HUNT token stakes in the beginning because there are not many users who have HUNT token. So the "curation score" considered the token stake part -> if you have more rshare when you have upvotes, you gain more contribution point cause that "enhanced" other hunter's reward -> which is kinda "stake-weighted" system.
  5. Now it is right time for us to run the hybrid system with ABV + Stake-Weighted by using HUNT token cause there are quite enough number of token holders plus we are preparing to list it on exchange market.
  6. Except for the voters/sponsors, all other airdrops are based on the hunter's user score. If you make higher your contribution score (which I explained at no.3), your user score can be higher, which makes you gain more tokens when you participate in airdrops, which will make higher your score even more.
  7. Once the token is listed, then yes you can purchase the token and stake in. However, just this won't be able to increase your user score because of the contribution score will be multiplied. Even if your stake is the highest no.1 so your HPS is 10, your user score can be zero if you don't have "any" activities.

Anyway, I still feel like you just keep "arguing" without knowing much about our background or reasoning so far. Again, if you can suggest some perfect ABV system for us that can achieve the following goals perfectly, you will be so much appreciated:

  1. Represent the user’s daily dedication within the community.
  2. Motivate users to gain a higher stake.
  3. Minimise the disparity between highly influential and normal users in a dynamic way.

If your argument is just "for" argument, I'm not going to answer you anymore cause I'd rather use my time to develop our platform better.

p.s.: oh Im sorry about the last sentence. I just saw your id is actually different person to the original person.

by the way, I forgot to explain about your question though.

"performance of other users"
-> this means that we use relative percentile scale metrics. When there are more users who more actively involve with SH, your score can be lower even though you perform the same amount.

Glad to see this new update / system! and that the active participants on steemhunt will gain a larger voting weight , although a lot of it still seems complicated to me here at 230 am lol! im always glad to see improvements on @steemhunt and im loving the site far , keep up the great work!👍✌💕💁
Upped and resteemed!

thanks so much always for your big support :)

Your welcome 😊👍

@karenmckersie I actually think the user score will be very easy for new users to understand and become motivated when their user score increases. It was difficult for the new hunters to learn one rating system that SH used let alone two, so now it is merged into one score.

I agree, hopefully this makes it easier,I will have to see it implemented but it should for sure be easier merged into one! Thanks for your helpful comments @fruitdaddy !😉👍❤️

All ready commented A few days ago on your awesome post.
Question: I dont understand how the post pay outs work , in steemhunt one of the Hunts i made says its worth 416.85 and one worth 132.86 etc. But I have never seen these amounts from any of my hunt posts added to my wallet in steemhunt !? Thanks , I really love your site @steemhunt will wait for your reply!💕✌👍

We don’t actually get paid out in steemhunt from our posts. Although from what I understand post payouts will be implemented after smt.

Ahh, ok thanks, I assume the hunt tokens can be converted maybe to Steem after the SMTs come out!? 😎

Developers are working on an exchange specifically for exchanging smt, steem and sbd. Hopefully the 70% lay-off doesn’t delay too much 🤔

70%Lay off!? So try but I'm mostly out of the loop busy building on the house 24/7 it seems like so I'm not posting much right now unless it's on Steemit or a contest .😊

Yup, shit hit the fan the other day! Steemit even made it on coindesk lol

OMG ! Seriously!! on my way to check out the link, thwnks for that and the info!😱😲

I love this new update

#Steemhunt-Rocks !!!

Many Many Congratulations and Appreciations to introducing such a valid criteria for hunters which make this platform more powerful. Many problems and questions about hunt score are done now. Hat off Team @steemhunt.

Now this is gonna remove all the confusion among the user. This is something quite understandable and effective in a more productive way.

User Score = (1) HUNT Power Score X (2) Contribution Score

Highly appreciated the idea and the efforts behind all this. Long live @steemhunt <3

Way to go team. I think this is best and should involve more engagement. Thanks.

@steemhunt is my Favorite Project to Delegate too.................Just Upped my Delegation Amount tonight.
